Scott Stensland Not really. Unlike many religious people (*Idk if you are, but that's beside the point; for this is an ineffective argument*), I don't feel the constant urge to profess my nonbelief. Many religious people (*since I'm American, the religious people I'm talking about are mainly fundamentalist Christians*) feel the need to make attempts at forcing their beliefs unto those who don't have the same beliefs; for example, by placing nativity scenes in front of capitol buildings and trying to make students in *_public_* schools have a specific time each day for (*Christian*) prayer, when many of the Americans who walk by the capitol buildings and many of the students in public schools are non-Christians. When we speak out about our nonbelief, it is almost always in response to an unprovoked incident involving fundamentalist Christians (*at least here, in America*). Hilariously enough, these same people (*conservative Christians*) would be outraged if they saw an Islamic crescent in front of any public building or if their children had to lay out a carpet, face the east, get on their knees, and recite Muslim prayers. Why? Because it's not their religion! Case in point, I'm saying that you can believe whatever you want; just keep it to yourself (*even Jesus said to pray in private because those who flaunt their faith at everyone else are hypocrites*), have a nativity scene or cross (*obviously, cross necklaces don't bother me or any other atheist at all, either*) on your *PRIVATE property*, don't force your beliefs unto those who don't hold your beliefs, and especially don't tell those same people that they're going to burn forever unless, of course, they convert to *YOUR* religion; basically, if the fundamentalist Christians would stop trying to constantly impose their beliefs on everyone else, constant logical, fact-based rebuttals from us would not be required. Have a nice day.

It's about control and always has been. And politics. Constantine who was emperor of the Roman empire was a life long pagan, an earth religion that had nothing to do with Satanism, recognized that Christianity was a growing force and supposedly converted at the end of his life. He had to maintain control of the masses. It's interesting that things like Sunday were taken from the day pagans honored the sun, even Christmas was their yearly celebration for the sun. The Council of Nicea decided what would be included in the Bible but it would be even more interesting to see what wasn't and why. Most people couldn't read so they had to rely on the priests. Even when they started to learn it was still in Latin. How many people even now still rely on their leader to tell them instead of reading or thinking for themselves. Those who question can be ostracized. Ever see the old pastor of the Westborough Baptist church videos re Carlin? He swore Carlin would be roasting in Hell and yet the pastor was the most hateful judgemental example of the exact opposite of the teachings of Jesus in recent times. George Carlin was actually operating from a concept of love. Go figure 😱🤣😊❤

Thus, I want to keep writing so I can actually say this crap to you online,, for a while, and yes , if I can't express myself in writing or using my voice, I consider a straight violation of my civil right and I will act accordingly. So, you don't have to actually call it, fancy, just write words, saying "Thank you" , that should do it. Or F**K ... would you not smash the head of some lemon heads, so you can keep writing ??! George made a good point about the absurdity of killing in the name of religion (I live in Northern Ireland) Although I didn't like George's use of foul language I can see where he's coming from in most of his opinions. I believe nobody has the right to force their religious OR Athiest views on someone else but at the same time they nobody should be afraid or ashamed to be honest when asked ie agree to disagree. I loved George in the first two Bill And Ted movies. No matter what religious/non religious beliefs we have we should all,as Bill And Ted would say,"Be Excellent To One Another and PARTY ON" ie help each other through the ups and downs of life and have fun with everyone we meet along the way.

Hi Mike, I agree - but please don't you take credit for it - check out Matthew 22:37 in the bible where the powers that be wanted to trip Jesus up by asking him which commandmant was the greatest and Jesus replied, "Love God with all your heart, soul and mind and the second is like it, love your neighbor as yourself." Jesus then said all the law and prophets were hung on these two commandments. Whether or not one believes in a historical or mythological Jesus - what was called "the Golden Rule", i. e. treating others as you would want to be treated - makes sense. Oh, and I'm a 70 year old agnostic crone.
@peternemeth1777 Жыл бұрын
Yes that is exactly right and it is exactly what Jesus taught. And these two commandments come straight from God and have been given by God to Moses. Jesus just taught that these two commandments to love God the creator of all creation with all your heart with all your soul with all your strength and with with all your mind and to love your next one in the same way as you love yourself are the most important of all rules that God gave to Moses which are altogether more than 600 rules including the 10 commandments. But there's something very important about this: Jesus sacrificed himself for this truth so that we may be at peace about the fate of our soul. Because all we have to believe is that he sacrificed himself for this message that the only commandment that we HAVE TO keep beyond the likes and the dislikes that gives immunity against any kind of evil is that we love one another by reminding ourselves that Jesus loved anyone unconditionally in the name of the heavenly father on behalf of the heavenly father representing the heavenly father. So Jesus taught: I give you but one commandment and the world will recognize that you belong to me and therefore to the heavenly father if you keep my words in your heart by reminding yourself that I will sacrifice my life to you to all of you that believe in me and it is these words: Love one another as I have loved you that the world may see that you don't belong to this evil world but to me. Therefore whatever you do whatever you pray for always use my holy name and God will help you out. I Jesus will ask the heavenly father that he will help you in my name because (after my death) I will go to the heavenly father directly because that is what God planned how your soul will be saved from all evil. That is why the apostle Paul taught that the reason for the ten commandments were just to create in anyone that committed himself or herself to obey them a consciousness that we are sinners because noone really has the strength to keep the 10 commandments. The moment someone starts to think that he or she can keep the 10 commandments one makes the biggest mistake a human can do: to think that one is better than anyone else. That's why God in his wisdom demanded a proof from the committed believers that one is conscious about the fact that we are sinners by our very nature (that is we're born with sin and the tendency to sin is in our blood or in our genes). The symbol of this consciousness was an innocent lamb. In a ceremony that God demanded to be done the jews transferred symbolically their sins to an innocent lamb. So the innocent lamb now because of this ceremony was now polluted with sins and therefore the priest's duty was it to kill the lamb and gather the blood of the lamb whose blood got polluted during this ceremony with the sins of the humans in a vessel. The priest now splashed the blood unto the horns of the altar and thus the altar in the course of a year got polluted symbollically with the sins of the humans. That's why once a year this altar got cleansed in a ceremony and God forgave anyone that admitted their sins before God on that day: the day is called Yom Kippur and is the day of reconciliation. However the apostle Paul taught that this ceremony was useless because God forgave the sins just symbolically and not for real. That is why it was predicted that God will send a real lamb in form of a saviour that will be killed for real and those that believe in this real lamb for those the sins will be forgiven once and for all. And Jesus pointed out very clearly that he's the lamb that will be sacrificed on behalf of all for the sins of any humans and anyone that believes in him is saved. So that is the connection between the ten commandments and the one commandment of Jesus. The ten commandments is called the old covenant between God and humans. The belief and trust in Jesus and in his teachings and in the word he taught by letting him (Jesus) in our hearts and loving him and remembering the last supper by drinking wine symbolically for the blood that Jesus shed for the forgiveness of sins and eating bread symbolically for his body that got crushed for the forgiveness of sins by remembering the most important of commandments that Jesus gave: that we should love one another as Jesus has loved us is called the new covenant. Thus according to the apostle Paul: The old covenant: • Staying in the consciousness that we're sinners (anyone, and noone is better or worse than another) by trying to keep the ten commandments. • Sins are not forgiven, just symbolically on the day of reconciliation: Yom Kippur New covenant: • believing that Jesus forgave anyone his and her sins and that God gave Jesus full authority to forgive sins by giving up his life out of love. • real forgiveness of sins • staying in Jesus = believing in the words he said = obeying his words = letting Jesus in our hearts = believing that Jesus is in the father and the father is in him = accepting Jesus as the saviour and shepherd = becoming a child of God through faith = getting saved = being commanded to follow Jesus by being willing to spread the gospel the message of love to anyone that seeks God and to those that God sends us to selflessly and with the willingness to face the resistence of the evil world and getting hate for doing so. • old covenant: Concentration on sins and growing a consciousness and awareness for our sins before Jesus was born to enlarge the need and longing for salvation and to prepare the souls to recognize God's unconditional love in and through Jesus when meeting Jesus. • new covenant: Believing in God's freely given grace and mercy, in the forgiveness of sins, in unconditional love demonstrated by Jesus deliberate sacrifice on the cross to demonstrate God's love to anyone that believes in Jesus.

Always loved Carlin. One of the great modern philosophers. The one thing I find quite special about this bit is the inverse correlation to the story of Jesus, who being asked what the greatest commandment was responded "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.' This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets" These combined are referred to as the greatest commandment and essentially mean the same thing. We are commanded to love. To love God (the holy sprit, the part of us that part of everything else, connection with all that is, was, and will be), and to love each other as self. I didn't have any substantial depth of knowledge about Christianity before Carlin passed. But about 6 years ago I engaged it for philosophical study and comparison and instead found spiritual truth. Impossible to explain in a comment thread. There is more to the story than is immediately obvious and I'd guess most people who open thier Bible interpret it wrong. I'm not claiming to know the right way. But I think if we can align with the spirit of the greatest commandment. We'll be alright
@cnault32442 жыл бұрын
"being asked what the greatest commandment was responded "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.' This is the greatest and first commandment." A better commandment would have been "All people regardless of race or gender are equal".
