The horn section was Darryl Dixon - Sax, Clay Lawrey - Trombone, Valerie Drayton - Trumpet, Danny Cortez - Trumpet. They replaced Fred, Maceo & The Horny Horns. When Bootsy started headlining his own shows The Horny Horns left P-Funk.

This is absolutely one of, if not the best version of Dr. Funkenstein. All original. Seriously I must have gone to about 20 P-Funk concerts starting in about 1978. Cordell Monson on that Rickenbocker bass was the lick. Thanks for this post. Ever funking on.

@@rhite12Definitely not Fred. He is largely built unlike this dude. I guess the entire horn section was a replacement of the horny horns for a short while because I am not able to recognise any of the players except the trumpet player.

after watching this, i am reminded how great EW&F and Maurice White was. Maurice sophisticated funk,soul, jazz and made it complex and commercially successful, something George the one trick pony could never do. Clinton liked to disrespect Maurice and EW&F, but Maurice had more talent and musicianship in his pinky.
@rolandbush8463

Doo wop, soul, black rock, funk, George was more than a one trick pony. Funk combines all the previous African American music with the outrage that was the sixties. So it was created by and for one people who understood the complexities of the music and was welcomed wholeheartedly. Clinton's Mothership Connection tour to this day is legendary, I don't know how an EW&F show matches up (never been to one). Never knew Clinton to ridicule White, only other funk groups and EW&F was not in that boat. Non African Americans may like funk but they'll never know and understand what it was about.

Bro... respectively...you're out there in the pyramids with Maurice. I absolutely love EWF and Maurice White and PFunk also. Seen both groups live dozens of times over the past 4 decades and never left a show without being thouroghly funktified.. Met George a couple of times and never heard him badmouth EWF or any other group for that matter. Calling the Funk Mob a one truck pony is very shortsighted. These fellas, Doo Wopped, Rocked, Funked, Jazzed, Souled, R&Bed their way into the Rock and Roll HOF. George's stable of exceptional musicians where Masters of many genres...as we're the fellas from EWF. No need to pick side. Free your mind, and your ass will follow...🤩🤘🏾

@@OriginalOldSkoolFunk Bro, do some research on George( everything sounds the same) Clinton. He ABSOLUTELY would take shots at EW&F, calling them something like Earth, Wind and No Fire. The guy was just trying to hide his envy and insecurity over the fact that Maurice had more talent, musicality, sophistication and commercial success in a week, then Clinton had in his average career. Comparing Maurice to Clinton is like comparing the Mona Lisa to a comic book.
