Isn't the black dog a symbol for death in England? My thoughts are that he's referencing suicide, or suicidal feelings that are haunting him- "Black dog get out of my mind"

Winstin Churchill used the phrase «black dog» when writing about his depression, so this song is about depression. «Holding a boulder, can you swim» is like, normal people swim normally, ppl with depression swims with a boulder (i think he is trying to explain how depression feels)

first heard this on 6music year and years ago and was blown away. Such an old voice in what was then effectively a kid! And then when the album comes out it's all Budapest and Sunday afternoon on Radio 2 stuff. Kinda disappointing really.
