You play this both soulfully and masterfully! I want to wholeheartedly thank you for posting this. I played violin from the age of 8 until 18, when I went off and majored in the sciences, ultimately becoming a physician. I am now retired, early, due to physical disability. A year and a half ago, I picked up my violin after 38 years. It was a real ego crusher. Also, the E string was too shrill (I can handle it now). I got an extremely inexpensive viola, and as bad as it was, I liked the C string. I upgraded my viola pretty quickly, and practiced it, as well as my violin, until this past July, when I found an excellent teacher. My viola teacher has really advanced my playing, on both viola and, after several months, (and a violin upgrade), on violin. I’ve gotten past the Vivaldi concerto in A minor (D minor for viola), and I am working on selected movements from the Bach Cello Suites on viola, as well as the Vivaldi double violin concerto in A minor and the Bach Violin Concerto in A minor, first movement on violin. Problem is, I played these when I was younger, I really need to play something I haven’t played before. I need the joy of learning a piece that builds on skills I already have, while allowing me to learn something totally new to me. Hearing your performance compelled me to get the sheet music. My first read through will be tomorrow. Your performance was inspiring, once again, I thank you for posting this!
@garykuovideos3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for sharing your story, britcommom! I’m delighted this video has inspired you to explore more literature. I too love the C string, so getting a 5-string was the logical step.

+Comic Girl, Cat 猫 (Young Artists) My apologies for the delayed response. +Han Wilm Thank you for your kind and thoughtful words. I began studying violin at the age of eight with David Singer, who founded the strings program in the Connecticut public school system. A year later, I continued my studies with Jean Brown, who taught me until I became a high school student, then moved on to Abraham Mishkind at the Hartt School of Music. When I was at Juilliard, I studied with Dorothy DeLay and Lewis Kaplan. Each instructor was invaluable in providing the guidance, wisdom, and insight I needed at the time. I am grateful to them all.

+Gary Kuo I do thank you for your kind answers. I had to go through some of the hardest moments ever in my life last year and the year before last, and it has been bothering my consciousness painfully ever since. Through repetitive listens to your performance, I truly feel that my pain gets soothed, and stress eased. I never expected when younger, that Handel's violin music could comfort my mind therapeutically this much in clinical terms. I think I have to confess to you Gary that I heartily appreciate your teachers' effort in teaching you as well as yours in longer terms, because they are among the ones who helped, leading me into moments of peace in mind by instructing you to pursue and shed light on the inner beauty of violin literature. Lastly but not least, may rest in peace be to Ms.DeLay, 'BIG Mother' of all those gem-like violinists. AND I can never fully express the extent of my legitimate gratitude to you for your answer and your performance.

I really liked how you played all this slowly. Just wondering about how quickly you took each movement tempowise. Thank you!
@garykuovideos8 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I should have an academic answer for you, but I don’t unfortunately. I’m certain my tempos are far slower than what they “should” be for this period but Crystal, my accompanist, and I both thought these worked fine, so we stuck by them.

Wow, I see that your still responding to comments, so I ask you this: How long have you been playing violin for?

I started when I was eight, so it’s been more than a few decades!
