He was wonderful but he was also a bit difficult as his songwriting skills became better and he wanted his songs included on Beatles albums. He wrote some great songs but wasn’t in the same league as Paul and John. He was the best guitarist in the band during the Beatles period.

You'd think that somebody being In the biggest band In the world would have an ego to match but fame never changed him. I wish we still had people like George making good music, If only he knew how much the world misses him, I know I do

I grew up with the Beatles while they were together and they're still at the top of my list and George was and remains my favorite Beatle. I guess I'm one of a few million original Beatlemaniacs and being that means I love all of those guys but you're kidding yourself if you think that George didn't have an ego. George always had a certain guarded arrogance about him and if you pay attention you can see it in this video of him in certain subtle ways. He still knows the importance of being gracious... after all he is British and he was, at least, one of four of the most famous and most rcogniozed people on the planet for more than a decade. Even Eric Clapton, one of Georges oldest and closest friends, said that George was very "contrary" which is a very big deal because you never hear Clapton say anything even remotely negative about anyone. Fame certainly did change all four of those guys but not necessarily in ways that anyone would expect or that would necessarily seem obvious. Of all four ex Beatles he had the least patience for anything he considered nonsense or foolishness in people he didn't know... especially the press and crazed fans. He certainly did have a big ego and I'm in no way putting him down for it but it's a fact.

I think what sets Harrison apart from most other musicians is the fact that he was so grounded...he wasn't flashy...he wasn't an egomaniac...he never changed...all he ever wanted was to be a musician and be successful...he achieved greatness by just being himself and not putting on any airs...we were so lucky to have him for as long as we did.

I always say: George 3rd greatest in rock history...also 3rd greatest in Beatles. That will never happen again. George was LEADER with Dylan, Orbison, Petty, Lynne. That qualifies as 3rd greatest in history...only to John and Paul. Beatles will never happen again. Also Lennon being Lennon while in the Beatles. Lennon's group. Wilbury's George's group. Stupefying. I spent my life marveling them. That's the fun of it.

I agree. Loved his dry sense of humor. George and Paul were curious how the recordings were going on The Beatles 1st album. George Martin escorted the two to the engineer booth. "Let us show you what we have so far. If there's something you don't like, just speak up and we'll address it," instructed their producer. George Harrison, "Well I don't like your tie, for starters."

I recall George was considered the “Sweet One” of the Beatles. I failed to appreciate him fully at the time. He was so unassuming and without affectations, and he had such a calm and reassuring understanding of life -- and death Now I’m totally blown away by the Traveling Wilburys and how relaxed and natural these artists seem to be. They make their beautiful music appear so effortless. They simply move their fingers and mouths, as easy as most people smile, and we are given musical treasures to cherish.

Thank you " Reeling " for the warmhearted Interview with George Harrison. He appears so unassuming, during this enquiry . George appears quite comfortable as he tenderly enjoys his time with " The Wilburys" . The Music they created together, in a " casual way", as he mentions , with a smile , one could see how happy he had become working on the " Wilbury's Album's. Would have loved Thad heard, " Volume 3" ....The guys that made up the Wilbury's, were ever so meant to be; as George stated, " it just happened overnight " How absolutely Brilliant for us to have these unknown names ( one could tell by the voice at times ) howevervwhat a Brilliant way to just have fun with your friends, and make a " Cloud 9 " song, and because it did not belong on a specific album; in 6 weeks, have an album completed. Thank you " Wilbury's " for this camaraderie between, Five wonderful Friend's as Brilliant Musicians, in their own Names .... great names of each " Wilbury'" You are Forever in our Hearts. 🕯🕯🕯✨✨✨🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🕉🌎🌏💖💖💖💖💖 💔💔💔💝🕉🔱

I’m not expecting a reply from two years ago but Tom was near on 40 when he collaborated on this. Already an accomplished musician with many years previous to the wilburys . George was maybe only 6 years his junior. I wouldn’t take too lightly to a 51 year old man referring to me as a schoolboy when I was nearing 40. You made Roy sound a bit of a has been. He was already buddy’s with Jeff, so already “hanging out” with the “young guys”, as you put it. Roy was smart enough to know he would place himself amongst some of the finest that day. They gravitate towards each other simply because they are/were all beautiful souls who appreciated one another’s tremendous musical abilities. No one trying to be cool here.

I'm lucky to have met and watched George Harrison play solo guitar. During his involvement with Formula 1 . I met him in Adelaide, Australia, and he borrowed a guitar from a friend's guitar shop. His technique was exceptional and dexterity jaw-dropping. I was in awe. He was tall, friendly, humble, and always smiling. RIP Mr Harrison 🙏 you influenced me to be a better musician and person. Peace, love, and good happiness stuff. ✌️🤘🏴🎸🥁🇦🇺

Talk about the epitome of understatement!! George was such a sweet and humble man. But that's what made all of the Wilbury artists so good! Because they were so grounded, self-ware and more connected to the music than their egos, and they weren't worried about what others thought of them. They were in it for the song and for each other with the utmost respect for the talents of their fellow Wilburys. This is the sort of the thing that made the 80's such an amazing decade in music.

Great insight into George as a person, singer/songwriter/musician, friend, and why he wanted to go solo. All the songs he wrote that were stacking up for years, unrecorded, b/c he was only allowed about 2 songs max per Beatles album. Wonderful interview!!

Every time I listen to The Traveling Wilburys their music makes me happy it's positive and they sound like they're having fun. I know that when my best friend and I would play music together it was so much fun so I think I have an idea what it must have been like for them. Because it sure comes across in their records. That band was magical:-) today someone asked me who is my favorite Beatle? I said George because he seemed to be a spiritually searching person such as myself so I may have had the most in common with him. And I'm a musician too. If I had one wish in the musical sense I wish I could have played harmonica with them and also the Beatles:-)

John's music has his own character. The same with Paul. I love the achievements they made. After the Beatles I bought George's Album "All things must pass". After hearing George by himself and his friends, I turned around and went back to all the songs of the Beatles. Only then did I see how much musical influence he must have made to his fellow Beatles.

I love George. I can’t imagine what he went through in his life. Most people probably think it was great and fun and amazing, and I’m sure there were those moments, but it must’ve been pretty traumatic. Impossible to imagine, but you can tell by his demeanor that it had an unpleasant effect on him. You’d think he had a great life, but I bet there was more pain and struggle than most people endure. He was a great musician, a legendary musician. The work he accomplished puts him up there with Beethoven. That must be a hard pill to swallow. He was taken from us way too early. It’s our exceptional luck that Paul made him play “Raunchy” for John on top of that double-decker bus that night. How much more empty would our lives be if those three never got together?

I don't think that's what he meant. Pretty sure he was referring to bands like Blind Faith, Derek & The Dominoes, Emerson Lake & Palmer, Asia, etc. "Supergroups" consisting of already famous individual players making music of variable quality. Sometimes supergroups work well together musically (in the case of the Wilbury's or ELP), sometimes they don't (in the case of Blind Faith who imploded after 1 album or Asia who got decent commercial success but the music was just awful). The Beatles may have been considered a "supergroup" in their day, but the individual members weren't famous before the Beatles.
