You'd think that somebody being In the biggest band In the world would have an ego to match but fame never changed him. I wish we still had people like George making good music, If only he knew how much the world misses him, I know I do
@mrfester427 жыл бұрын
I grew up with the Beatles while they were together and they're still at the top of my list and George was and remains my favorite Beatle. I guess I'm one of a few million original Beatlemaniacs and being that means I love all of those guys but you're kidding yourself if you think that George didn't have an ego. George always had a certain guarded arrogance about him and if you pay attention you can see it in this video of him in certain subtle ways. He still knows the importance of being gracious... after all he is British and he was, at least, one of four of the most famous and most rcogniozed people on the planet for more than a decade. Even Eric Clapton, one of Georges oldest and closest friends, said that George was very "contrary" which is a very big deal because you never hear Clapton say anything even remotely negative about anyone. Fame certainly did change all four of those guys but not necessarily in ways that anyone would expect or that would necessarily seem obvious. Of all four ex Beatles he had the least patience for anything he considered nonsense or foolishness in people he didn't know... especially the press and crazed fans. He certainly did have a big ego and I'm in no way putting him down for it but it's a fact.

I’m not expecting a reply from two years ago but Tom was near on 40 when he collaborated on this. Already an accomplished musician with many years previous to the wilburys . George was maybe only 6 years his junior. I wouldn’t take too lightly to a 51 year old man referring to me as a schoolboy when I was nearing 40. You made Roy sound a bit of a has been. He was already buddy’s with Jeff, so already “hanging out” with the “young guys”, as you put it. Roy was smart enough to know he would place himself amongst some of the finest that day. They gravitate towards each other simply because they are/were all beautiful souls who appreciated one another’s tremendous musical abilities. No one trying to be cool here.

Talk about the epitome of understatement!! George was such a sweet and humble man. But that's what made all of the Wilbury artists so good! Because they were so grounded, self-ware and more connected to the music than their egos, and they weren't worried about what others thought of them. They were in it for the song and for each other with the utmost respect for the talents of their fellow Wilburys. This is the sort of the thing that made the 80's such an amazing decade in music.

Every time I listen to The Traveling Wilburys their music makes me happy it's positive and they sound like they're having fun. I know that when my best friend and I would play music together it was so much fun so I think I have an idea what it must have been like for them. Because it sure comes across in their records. That band was magical:-) today someone asked me who is my favorite Beatle? I said George because he seemed to be a spiritually searching person such as myself so I may have had the most in common with him. And I'm a musician too. If I had one wish in the musical sense I wish I could have played harmonica with them and also the Beatles:-)

Props to the interviewer. He asked great questions. GH answer's were "truthfully moderate" there's no big secret nor is there a magical formula to the success of the band, in his words " It just happened" 🙂

What a beautiful man. So open and mature. Great interview. Roy Orbinson "I'd like to come along and watch" :D You can clearly tell how much personal relationships meant to George.

John's music has his own character. The same with Paul. I love the achievements they made. After the Beatles I bought George's Album "All things must pass". After hearing George by himself and his friends, I turned around and went back to all the songs of the Beatles. Only then did I see how much musical influence he must have made to his fellow Beatles.

on top of everyone's comments, what I always notice in his interviews is how he actually listens carefully to the interviewer and remains totally focused.

I love George. I can’t imagine what he went through in his life. Most people probably think it was great and fun and amazing, and I’m sure there were those moments, but it must’ve been pretty traumatic. Impossible to imagine, but you can tell by his demeanor that it had an unpleasant effect on him. You’d think he had a great life, but I bet there was more pain and struggle than most people endure. He was a great musician, a legendary musician. The work he accomplished puts him up there with Beethoven. That must be a hard pill to swallow. He was taken from us way too early. It’s our exceptional luck that Paul made him play “Raunchy” for John on top of that double-decker bus that night. How much more empty would our lives be if those three never got together?

Comparing him with Beethoven is a bit much.

I laugh how George explains he hated the thought of a 70 superstar group. Maybe being in the 60's superstar group let George understand how crazy it gets.

I don't think that's what he meant. Pretty sure he was referring to bands like Blind Faith, Derek & The Dominoes, Emerson Lake & Palmer, Asia, etc. "Supergroups" consisting of already famous individual players making music of variable quality. Sometimes supergroups work well together musically (in the case of the Wilbury's or ELP), sometimes they don't (in the case of Blind Faith who imploded after 1 album or Asia who got decent commercial success but the music was just awful). The Beatles may have been considered a "supergroup" in their day, but the individual members weren't famous before the Beatles.
@2011littlejohn17 жыл бұрын
No the Beatles weren't a super star group. They may have been the biggest band in the world but they were not made out of members of other very successful bands.
@nealzokan26806 жыл бұрын
leokimvideo That seems in redibly foolish to say the Beatles were a "supergroup". Thwy BECAME one becsuse of their massive popularity and influence-not because they were famous prior to the formation of the group.

I still love Wasted and Can't find my way home so I'm not sure about that. Also, Asia was what it was, pop, but many people (myself included) really liked it.
@magillanz4 жыл бұрын
a lot of "Supergroups" are just people from other bands where as the WIlburys are all superstars

I'm so glad I saw this interview. I got the 1st and 3rd album when they came out, but In all these years I never found the 2nd Traveling Wilburys album. Now I know why I couldn't find it, there wasn't one. It's good to know I didn't miss out on hearing it.

George always did a great interview when he's asked questions about the music, by an intelligent interviewer. He could clam up when he was just being chased for his fame, but this kind of an interview is quite enjoyable and interesting to listen to.
