George Michael - Calling You (Madrid 1989)

This is George performing "Calling You" from the movie "Bagdad Cafe". This upload looks a lot better than the old one on KZbin so I thought that this deserves to be uploaded. It's so nice seeing anything from the Faith Tour professionally filmed.

It's so historically great at this point in time, that at that time of his world wide tour as a solo artist when he released Faith that he didn't shy away from such tunes and that audiences were lucky enough to get hear his soulful R&B vocals in numerous songs - aside from his beautiful ballads and pop songs. He could have played it safer - but, thankfully, he chose not to do so - which is rather the hallmark of George - he never played it safe, never stopped evolving and being so incredibly honest in his art. And, no two songs of his sound anything alike - which also is incredibly rare. The 80s, 90s, 2000s, 2010 until we lost him, everything he did was unique to anything he had done before. One of kind and he is so missed ❤💔

I'm surprised there isn't more footage of the Faith tour online.

Why? It's nearly 40 years ago - people didn't have phone that could film, you really couldn't take in video cameras and there was no internet, social media and youtube - obviously. And, George never wanted to have any of the faith tour footage (which does exist) to be published or released and he denied right to release it and he had that authority. So, we won't ever see it as his Estate will respect his wishes with respect to this. Over the years, we have gotten some KZbin footage/clips online because of individuals who did manage to film some performances - which is why it is all pretty poor overall in quality. Or, some people involved in the original filming of footage managed to retain a bit and have released it when tech became available. It is a real shame but, it is what he wanted.

Wish George had sung in this register more often. I think he may have had more ease as a baritone vs tenor. It's rich and the vibrato is more natural without the nasal quality his upper register sometimes has, especially as he aged.
