it's a great idea, but I think the mystery of what happened to him has a power to it. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see him do even a small Easter Egg cameo as either definitely Max or maybe Max. But Mel doing a voiceover for a limited animated 'What happened to Max?' series set just after he's last seen heading into the desert would work better than an actual appearance by a 68 year-old Gibson. Even Hugh Jackman is now pushing it to play Wolverine at 55. But Hugh has the advantage of playing a character that doesn't age like normal humans. Mad Max couldn't be half the man he was when we last saw him. As far as live action is concerned it's maybe better left well enough alone.

@AAAA-lt9hq 10 күн бұрын
@@comebackguy8892 Some probably could have argued that "Apocalypto" was an indirect white savior film because the Aztecs were depicted in an unflattering light when they sacrificed other indigenous peoples in the movie. Therefore, "You should be grateful that the Spanish came to rescue you from yourselves!" Aztec oppression of neighboring peoples has been overlooked even though it is mentioned in Bernal Diaz's firsthand account of Hernando Cortez's Mexican expedition. Hatred of the Aztecs was so intense that, had Cortez not had his native allies, he probably could not have overthrown the Aztecs with the few men he had. Aztec obsidian weapons were still dangerous against Spanish armor. Firearms helped, but hundreds of Spaniards couldn't kill thousands of Aztecs without more men.

At one point the screenplay for Fury Road focused heavily on Max being an older guy. Not elderly like Indiana Jones, but still old. It was a huge focus early in development and if you look at the storyboards for Fury Road you can see clearly Max is drawn to look old. It was only when Tom Hardy was cast in the role that they shifted focus away from that a bit, although even in the final product there are some small details that seem to be holdovers from before Hardy's casting.

Nonsense, this is a director who’s vision is clearly specific and didn’t involve him because he didn’t want to make a movie about an older hero

@@davidb9531 Gibson was hardly a dinosaur when this released and still looks good in movies. I'm of the opinion that George would have naturally concerned himself with Gibson controversy at the time, especially considering he was essentially blacklisted from Hollywood for years!

@@Tube2097you're dead right also Max 4 was planned 2 times before Fury Road. Originally it was 1998 then again in 2005 both times using Gibson and Ledger (feral boy), Miller knew after Gibsons controversial statements he wouldn't be provided funding with Mel.

Once again, Jake takes the gain ! All the great questions and you can tell Georges really appreciated your insightful questions. The first questions about how his experience as a doctor influenced his career as a filmmaker was one I've been wondering for a while and I'm so grateful that 1/ You asked it for me, and 2/ that he gave such a fascinating answer. Also, that last part teared me up. You made that 80 year old man feel seen, and that is probably something he doesn't experience every day, despites his treasure trove of a career. Kudos to you, man !

Jake, thank you sooooo much for this amazing interview. I feel as you do regarding Mr. Miller. He is a genius, plain and simple. I have been a fan of his work since I saw the Road Warrior on VHS as a fifteen year old in 1982. Your exuberance for Mr. Miller and his work seemed genuine. Heck, I could listen to Mr. Miller talk about his experiences in regard to filmmaking for hours. Mr. Miller seems like a genuine likable man. Thank you for the question about his medical career in relation to his filmmaking career. The Road Warrior is my favorite film of all time and this series of films is one of my favorites. I can’t wait to see Furiosa. Lastly, I am still bummed that we never got to see his version of Justice League. Very interesting cast choices for this proposed version.

I don’t know. Personally, I think Tom brought a unique sense of ‘madness’ to Max that Mel lacked in the previous movies. Sure Mel has the cool bravado of a wandering outcast but I think Tom’s feral approach to the character brought a much more vulnerable aspect to the Max that I thought was very good.

George Lucas showed the world how to create a lived in universe (galaxy really). But George Miller took it to another level. In Fury Road George Miller had created back stories fro not just the characters but for the vehicles and weapons. The two George's have shown us the way. Let's not nitpick and be assholes. They both have given cinema an amazing opportunity to tell stories in a new way.
