Greed leaves itself no option but to eventually consume itself.. The answer to all of these human-created 'problems' is understanding the one thing that we neglect, which gets us into this mess in the first place, and which is also the one thing that virtually no one has any time for, and that is truth, and how it may be understood.. "History abundantly shows that people's views of the universe are bound up with their views of themselves and of their society. The debate in cosmology has implications far beyond the realm of science, for it is a question of how truth is known. How these questions are answered will shape not only the history of science, but the history of humanity." (Eric Lerner, 1992) spaceandmotion

@fromeveryting29
@fromeveryting29 2 жыл бұрын
A vegan lifestyle is practically very easy and cheap, but can be socially uncomfortable. But our social comfort shouldn't trumph our regard for lives on earth. Veganism is the only ethical system that is actually against ALL exploitation, violence and injustice. It's also our BEST and most vital tool to tackle the vast majority of our own human issues, as well as sparing billions of animals from the most severe abuse we inflict on others. Objectively speaking, you cannot do anything worse, in terms of suffering, violence and damage dealt to the world, than eating animal products year after year. Thousands of ruined lives, moments of fear, pain, loss and betrayal, for animals. Many times the resources consumed, quadroupling the risk of pandemics - all to eat foods we do not need. All to "fit in". As this man so graciously finished his speach - in this world, to love is to resist. Extend your love as far as you can. Be greater. When you hold power over a defenseless animal, do not see a chance to dominate and self-gratify. See someone. See with love and responsibility. That is what this world desperately needs..

No matter what journey I have to make on the roads, I see little sign of change in the attitudes of drivers and motorcyclists towards the environment. Where I live, in Shropshire, the problem is particularly endemic. Sure, there are the wealthy EV owners (many of those also not without bad driving habits too). However, dwarfing them 200:1 are ICE drivers/riders. Symptoms of careless driving with absolutely ZERO respect given to the environment, let alone road safety, are:- 1) Hard Acceleration from all states of motion or from a standstill. 2) Subsequent hard braking 3) Persistent and endemic speeding 4) Fighter pilot-like manoeuvring 5) Frequent journeys of large engine capacity and passenger carrying capacity used by just one passenger 6) Increasing driver/rider aggression If you want to test the responses or consciences of people in general to the unfolding climate crisis, look no further than behaviour on the roads. You don't need an opinion poll, just experience the roads and that is the only barometer you will need from day to day. Apart from the obvious risk to safety, in terms of journeys for work and/or for necessity, the impact on these habitual driving flaws are as follows:- 1) Increases in C02 emissions (and other gaseous exhaust pollutants) 2) Brake dust and other friction component contaminants 3) Tyre abrasion residue 4) Reduced fuel efficiency leading to excessive fuel consumption 5) Increase in noise pollution 6) Increasing risk of death and serious injury by vehicle collision What to do? I see little willpower or action in England to take the edge off this problem. However, I noticed that Wales have at least started to introduce calming measures in some counties. I suppose this is a start but a lot more needs to be done but it will require drivers/riders consciences to change en masse for the most beneficial impact to happen. Until then, it seems we carry on headlong into a catastrophe of our own making and only deciding to change behaviour when either ordered to do so or when the damage is so severe, we can't carryout our self-centred behaviour without an immediate response from the world around us or an immediate cost in all ways, not just financially. If you must journey by car or motorbike, then please, PLEASE SLOW DOWN.

Stop flying, send your fossil-fueled vehicle to recycling, don't fly, plant trees, change your diet, figure out how to reduce energy bills to as low as humanely possible, love your neighbour as you love yourself, including future generations, and watch the magic happen. Road building, home building etc etc, why is it all happening ? Well it's all about humans and their love of growth. Meanwhile as a species we have grown too large and it's not in our nature to stop consuming. The real problem is our already far to large number of fellow humans is growing by over 81 million humans a year. That's like adding the population of a country the size of Germany to the worlds population each and every year.

🤔 Indeed. But attempts to encourage birth control are opposed by deluded religionists and their political supporters in government. I’ve had this argument with many in the XRcommunity and none of them want to hear it. WE as the consumers are at fault, not the large corporations not the energy company’s, US. Every family world wide should be put on a one child limit for at least a generation or 2, unless you have twins or so on of course. But no they continually go on about being vegan or to many cars on the roads. Well guess what genius’s, less people would equal less cars, less polution less fuel consumption less electric and gas consumption less mouths to feed so less farming of both crops and animals. Numbers don’t lie and in this case the humans are the numbers so the humans are the root of the whole problem!

An energy efficient home is more comfortable and saves money in the long run. Added insulation, triple glaze windows, energy efficient doors, energy efficient heating and cooling systems, energy efficient appliances, LED lighting, smart thermostats, solar panels combined with battery storage and a electric vehicle charger in the garage or car park. People are too focused on the short term costs and miss out on long term savings and comfort. A while back, farmers were merrily caging and skinning minks for profit until the government banned mink farming - due to public pressure and environmental issues like mink escapes into SSSIs. We had to compensate the farmers for cutting off that avenue of money-making to the tune of millions. So, the same will happen when the government has to *inevitably* cut grants to the animal farming industry. The taxpayer will have to compensate accordingly. I don’t remember the public being compensated after the Berlin Wall came down and we all heard about “the peace dividend”. If we were threatened with war immediate action would be taken but it looks as if we don't have anything to worry about when it comes to climate change. Even though there have been fires in Canada and California and floods in Europe the BBC news does not mention them anymore on TV. The rest of the media seems quiet about the possible end of civilisation so it must be OK and I'll daydream about the gameshows and holidays I will jet to in the next few years.

We‘ve gotta switch to a One-Planet-Lifestyle within 10 years. (At present we practice 3 planet in Europe, 5 planet in the US). By no means we can achieve that with renewables alone. Perhaps minus 1 planet by new technologies if we are very lucky. But at least minus 1 planet by boldly cutting our consumerismin every imaginable way. Great speech by George! 🍀

It is, nuclear is the safest energy source per kwh, it’s safer than solar and wind. It doesn’t release ghg which is destroying the planet, it makes nuclear waste that comparatively can easily be stored. The only issue with nuclear is cost. Solar PV and batteries are cheaper.

I wouldn't advise Insulate Britain to go up north and start blocking roads because you'll get more than ink on your faces. Manchester has some very working class areas and you're asking for trouble. Get back in your gas guzzling cars and go back to your homes which aren't insulated, like Liam Norton who admitted his house isn't insulated. You might be able to get away with this crap down here but working class northerners won't tolerate it.

Fly taxes will effect poorer people who can hardly afford to fly. I think make more train tunnels and cheaper cruise ships. Tax won't work it's just another way of stopping the average person from flying not richer people who won't care. Also free camping areas would be good.

Simple solution, if you all really love the earth as much as you profess, then lower your birth rates around the globe. This is all very much a simple problem of the product of too many people and too much harmful consumption such as fast fashion, antibiotically pumped factory-farmed animals, etc. etc. People, you just aren't as 'special' as you think and without a healthy ecosystem to support you, because you're wiping it out, your future generations won't exist. So, get yourselves under control or the earth will do it for you.
