BEAUTY AND THE BEAST was an 80s fantasy drama crime procedural romance TV show featuring a guy named George RR Martin as a writer/producer. Yes, this is before ever writing Game of Thrones. In fact, the experience of working on this show may have even led George to create A Song of Ice and Fire. It was a weird show - and you know I love weird.
This show starred Ron Perlman as “Vincent,” our beast, and Linda Hamilton as “Catherine,” our beauty. They had a beautiful, epic love story. Until things took a bizarre turn in the tumultuous last season. (Sounds familiar.)
I did see this show when I was a kid. My mom liked it and recorded episodes using the VCR. And I kept watching it, waiting for the fairy tale part to kick in and was like, “Why are they in the sewer so much?” I started rewatching it more recently, but the streaming service I was using got rid of it, so I didn’t finish and had to jump to watching the ending on a poor-quality upload, and yes, I’m bitter about it.
Also, it was really bold of me to immediately debut a new haircut in a sweltering hot room. With no idea how to style it yet. Or how it would look on camera. It looks a little off in this video, but it’s super cute in person. (Although, I’ll probably get bored in like two months when summer’s fully over and start growing it back out.)
Upcoming Videos:
-We don't need an upcoming Disney reboot because the perfect live-action movie version already exists.
-This franchise should be the next "Barbie." Kind of. You'll see what i mean.
(As an aside: Sometimes, when I work on a video, there are smaller ideas that crop up that I think about making, so I have shorter videos to post while I work on longer videos. So I have considered making a video about one of GRRM's unsettling short stories. And a video where I finally watch the ending of the CW Beauty and the Beast, and compare it to this show's ending. But we'll see.)

I never watched this show as a kid, but I did watch the whole series with my mom a few months ago. I was surprised how good it was until I saw George R.R. Martin's name on a lot of title screens. It was also funny to see Uncle Phil in season 1 😂😂😂.

Classic momcore. My mom definitely loved this, and I had no clue GRRM worked on it. Also you should do what I do when talking about George R R Martin, and just call him "Gurm." It's saved me hours. :^)

I vaguely remember this show existing when I was young. I kinda wish the romance wasn't there from the start. I need this relationship to build slowly. I need a Gargoyles Goliath and Elisa situation. Also, is that Dorian Harewood as the slasher? I know that voice from cartoons, don't think I've seen him in shows, but that guy's got a great voice.

I vaguely remember that it had a lot going on. Too much. But was also somehow boring! (Though I’ve thought about revisiting at least a few episodes - and the ending - to see how it ultimately compares to this series.)

I remember watching this show. It was very gothic and romantic. It reminds me of MANTIS and Shadow Man or even Batman TAS. My mom liked the show before she got into Days of our Lives and 90210. Later on, she would just watch Food network and football. I liked VR-5, but NOT Melrose Place. X-Files was icky. I was never interested by Game of Thrones. Thanks for allowing me to vent. Have a nice day.

As someone who has never seen Game of Thrones, I must now assume that whole "Red Wedding" thing I heard so much about involves lots of big dudes throwing ethnically-coded little dudes around before they get scared and run away. Also, loving the new haircut, girl. You're slaying harder than the Subway Slasher ;)

I have to admit I was never a fan of this show. I tried to watch it a long time ago with a girl I dated in high school but it just never held my interest. She was obsessed with it tho. She had a poster she got signed by Ron Pearlman at a convention once. She also had the episodes on VHS. I don't remember if she had all of it or just season one but they were commercially released on VHS, apparently. I did know GRRM was on staff, but Sam Peckinpah's nephew and two of the creators of Homeland wrote for the show too. That's kind of fun. I dig your hair, by the way. It's classy. Very professional. Very "Pug Mugsly, Attorney At Law"

That's interesting that a high school girl liked this show! What I've been hearing so far is that a lot of people's moms liked it when it came out. But perhaps it appealed to a much broader spectrum of women and girls.
@hezekiahramirez6965
@hezekiahramirez6965 Жыл бұрын
Oh, that is interesting. Her mother introduced her to it so maybe it does mostly appeal to moms. Her mom was a big fan too. It was before our time by several years so I know she grew up with it. But I will also say that in school I often talked to girls about nerdy things like TMNT, MMPR, wrestling, and videogames. Some girls from school came over from time to time to watch Wrestlemania or play games and they seemed to be having fun. I have always thought a lot of women and girls like genre fare but they aren't really encouraged to talk about it as openly because it's not "girly." Especially if they're conventionally attractive. In my experience, if women feel welcomed and safe they usually do like at least some fantasy or SF. It's not that women don't like SF and fantasy. It's just that most of the time they're not included in conversations. At least that's my impression of it

The guys in hats are a "ripped from the headlines" reference to the Guardian Angels: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guardian_Angels They were a citizens' anti-crime organization that rode the subways and made citizen's arrests, acted like a neighborhood watch, and things like that. They wore red berets and white T-shirts and sometimes red jackets. At the time Beauty and the Beast was airing, they were quite prominent and controversial.

12:30 That was ALL just the first episode?!? Holy hell. I'm assuming hour long episodes were actually only 44 minutes back then, as they are today, because of commercial breaks? That's a heck of a lot to cram into an opening episode! Also, that's funny noticing Kawalsky in an earlier role. The "cameo" I recognized was the Jason Walker character, as he played Eightball from the movie Full Metal Jacket. His famous "too beaucoup Alabama Black Snake" scene is often quoted (in some circles). But then I also remembered he was on SG1 too! He played the Tok'ra who was briefly held "prisoner" at the SGC when the team was looking for O'Neill while he was being tortured by Baal. Also also, I don't know if it's frowned upon here (some folks find it gauche), but I really like your shorter hair. It looks real nice!

I believe the first episode was about 48 minutes long. But that’s still a LOT for 48 minutes! I already knew the main characters and the general premise of the show going in, but I can’t imagine what it was like back in the 80s for someone watching this for the very first time without any context. And thank you for the hair compliment! :)

If you like the GOT schlock, you wouldn't like this show, it's actually got a point to this show but of course, Georgy-poo never got the point. And it's not forgotten, they tried remaking it in 2012 with the same people in production EXCEPT HIM. The remake failed because it sucked, but it's not forgotten.
