OMG I remember reading this to my mom back when it had first been published. Mom was the 'lower school' librarian and always had a stack of books to go through over summer. I began reading- we were in the kitchen and she was cooking dinner. It wasn't long before we were laughing so hard I couldn't actually read and we were practically peeing our pants! Sure do miss her. Thanks for the memories!

Honestly, my pleasure. It was hiding right under our noses. Publishers credited Derek Griffiths, not Richard.

My heart, I'm CRYING! I've been searching high and low for years, I even hum the tune to myself every so often and wonder where my well loved tape went. I've been looking in every nook and cranny of the internet for a recording and admittedly, forgot about it. Until today, on World Book Day, I saw a child, dressed as Grandma, which reminded me to look again. And here it is. A treasure of my childhood. I'm going to get lost in nostalgia and listen to this tonight. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, thank you! 🥹

Aw, no problem. I was the same. You can thank my Mum. She found the audio tape online, which was credited Derek Griffiths (not Richard). I did the basic analogue transfer and a friend did a generic digital cleanup. I couldn’t believe it had been overlooked for so long. Classic interpretation.

Thanks so much for this. I had this recording on cassette as a kid, and I agree it's the best reading of George. I'm so pleased to hear it again!

Thank you for uploading this recording of George's Marvelous Medicine, it really brings back memories. One fond memory I have of this is that I used to press fast-forward on the tape player and the intro music was so funny, even thinking about it really cracks me up 😂🤣

Agree. This was a fantastic audio version of the book. My sister and I would do the washing and wiping up when we were little. This would be put on in the background to make the task more bearable. Thanks for the upload.

Writing for children, Roald Dahl thankfully didn't give a gobsmacking willido to be a whigging wimp. He conjures up scenes vividly ... wickedly ... delightfully. And the kids love that. Dunno why the pain in the buttocks sitting on high and mighty seats are so obstinately blinkered -- mealy mouthing: "Ohhh... please...they are children after all."

Ha, ikr. As an adult I picked up on this quickly. As a child I revered his acknowledgement of not wanting to bump her off. Dunno bout you but "Quantum of Solace" where Bond gives him a carton of engine oil to chug and end his life quickly instead of walking through the blistering heat and then hearing about George putting this and equally poisonous stuff in his concoction including animal medicines - ha. Book should come out with a disclaimer like cigarette packages.
