This scene is actually hilarious lol. This was actually a deleted scene from Seinfeld when George Costanza was working with the New York Yankees. Larry David was not pleased with the real Steinbrenner's performance in this scene compared to his own interpretation of him that he's used to doing that he had to cut it. Nonetheless, still a good piece of Seinfeld history.
@whompronnie Жыл бұрын
That's why Larry's great. Cut a high-profile cameo if it doesn't serve the comedy
@VandelayIndustries61 Жыл бұрын
@@whompronnie I never bought Larry David's explanation. Buck Showalter was way worse than Steinbrenner and they used his clip. It's forgotten now, but at the time, there was some talk that George may have violated confidentiality by blabbing details of his appearance on the nationally syndicated "The Fabulous Sports Babe" radio show before the episode aired. If true, that would be a reason why they cut him, because if artistic considerations were the key, JL-D's rant alone would have justified keeping George in.

@@cisium1184 His first scene was pretty bad. He's not terrible for someone who's not a professional actor, but for a perfectionist like Larry David, it would never pass muster. Whether the show ran short or long, they were right to cut the scenes out. The overall chemistry and comedic value just simply don’t measure up to the standard of Seinfeld. They wrote these lines for Steinbrenner to be spoken in a similar manner to the way Larry David did it. The real Steinbrenner was slow and his rhythm was off. It was supposed to be a quick fire erratic style the way Larry David did it like boom boom boom: “ that’s nonsense young lady, you’re coming with me, we’re going to have a good time, you lose a little weight, will dance, it’ll be great...” etc. Rapid fire-style. But hey, Steinbrenner wasn’t an actor so you can’t really fault him much.
