This song was played at my husband's funeral service in 2020. We spent 52 years together, enjoyed many memories of George's music and his concerts. We loved his music, loved dancing to many of them, and just singing along to them. Thanks for the memories. ❤❤❤❤❤

My brother left quietly. We didn't know about his pain. I made a video of photos gathered and saw so many of his photographs, he was wearing a cowboy hat. I used this song to play him off into the sunset. Bye Rod, Jan 14, 1953- Feb 28, 2024.

Hi. I layed my daddy to rest the day before your brother passed. He wasn't a cowboy... he was a rough neck. 8 yrs in Vietnam and 53 years in the oilfield, and all his sons followed him out to work hard and dirty. I'm so sorry for your loss. Maybe they've met up there?

my grandpa was one of the last cowboys of his generation, my grandmother would sit outside and paint him as he’d rope cattle and tame horses. We laid both of them to rest as they passed a week from each other. One couldn’t live without the other and this song was played at their funeral.

My Grandpa was a dryland farmer / rancher in the Pawnee National Grasslands in northern Colorado. He could not make a living only farming or ranching so all of the people who lived out in this area had to do both. My grandfather taught me many valuable things to guide me in life. He told me to always do be very best - even if no one else would see my work. He taught me t he proper way use a file and a hand wood cutting saw. He build all of the barns and out-building on the farm / ranch with nothing but hand tools.

I think this song means . I knew the risks right from the start when she showed her hand . I opened my heart but now I'm faced with a situation that I can't handle . This is a moment when the cowboy leaves and my heart feels heavy like the the sun going down and casting a light on missed chances . Its time to say goodbye to the past . We've gone through the highs and lows of love , but now we're at the end . As the sad song plays and the credits roll , the cowboy makes his exit , saying the final farewell is always the hardest . This is where the cowboy rides away . This song really gets to me , as it shows that the game was clear from the start . When she showed her hand , I took a risk by putting my heart out there only to find myself in losing situation and the cowboy leaving . My heart feels heavy thinking about what could have been its time to move on from the past and look ahead . Our love story has its ups and downs , and now we're at the final scene . The cowboy is the type to leave before things get too complicated . I'm left with regrets and thoughts of what could have been if I held on tighter . With the cowboy gone , I feel like I've let go the best part of my life . I realized the risk were big from the start when she showed her hand I put my heart on the line only to find myself in a game I couldn't win . This marks the moment when the cowboy leaves and my heart feels heavy like the setting sun setting on missed opportunities . Its time to say goodbye to the past as the cowboy rides away . Our relationship has been a rollercoaster and we won't reach the final scene with a sad tune playing and the credits rolling . Saying goodbye is tough , but its time for the cowboy to go . With a heavy heart full of regret , I realize I should have cherished her more and listened to my own feelings . I've let go of the best part of my life and the cowboy has disappeared . The Cowboy Rides Away

This is my dads favorite. He’s tired now and fading quickly. Sometimes he remembers how much he loves this song, others no recollection. What he always loved was a glass of bourbon and a beer. Pour a shot as a tribute to him when you can. Hoping for more memories …

THIS IS WHERE THE COWBOY RIDES AWAY I knew the stakes were high right from the start When she dealt the cards I bet my heart Now I just found a game that I can't play and this is where the cowboy rides away And my heart is sinking like the setting sun setting on the things I wish I'd done It's time to say goodbye to yesterday and this is where the cowboy rides away [ guitar ] We've been in and out of love and in between And now we've played the final showdown scene As the credits roll the sad song starts to play this is where the cowboy rides away And my heart is sinking like the setting sun setting on the things I wish I'd done Oh the last goodbye's the hardest one to say this is where the cowboy rides away Oh the last goodbye's the hardest one to say this is where the cowboy rides away

Great video compilation! This song massively helped me get through my divorce by singing along with it over and over and over in the car. Now I own that pain. But it has the beautiful melody and rhythm of this song. Thanks to Sonny Throckmorton and Casey Kelly for writing it, and George Strait for singing it. Nowadays it brings nothing but a huge smile. 😎
