29 December 2023 - Barranco Camp
Day 7: It’s Day 3 of our Kilimanjaro hike and today is a massive day of hiking. The altitude started to get a bit much for our mate Gab and it was like bunking with Darth Vader but he pushed on for the day.
We leave Shira Camp 2 (3850m) at 8:30am again and elevate to the Lava Tower (4600m). After nearly 6hrs of hiking we elevate approx. 750m to get to Lava tower where we have lunch to help us acclimatise to the new aliturude.
After lunch we descend down another 2.5hrs back down to 3900m to Barranco Camp, arriving just before 6pm. 8.5 hours of hiking today, the fatigue definitely was fast approaching and couldn’t be happier to get settled in camp in warm clothes before the cold dark night settled in.
