My Husband was a Police Officer. He would come home with a heavy heart some days and would try to leave it all with his badge, but there were days he'd head to the barn to be with the horses ,goats or chickens and I knew he just needed to decompress. Then he'd come in and sometimes want to talk, other times not. I never pushed . He lost his battle to Mesothelioma in 2010. God bless all who serve and protect us. That's the worrying and waiting I subjected my family to. I've had a great career and I've been blessed to come through it. I have some scars, both visible and not. On 03/19/2022 while George Strait was performing this song at Simmons Bank Arena in North Little Rock, AR, the North Little Rock police, EMT and Firefighters were helping a young lady that collapsed at the beginning of the song. As the song played with George unaware of the badge at work, he played as they did just as they called to do…The meaning of this song was alive, in action and only the fans around this young lady witnessed the true weight of the badge. They protected her, they took control, made sure she was going to be okay. At the end of the song, she unfortunately was wheeled out by EMS. Thank you, North Little Rock, AR emergency personnel, you wear your badge with honor, and I pray that young lady is okay.

It's bittersweet but I couldn't take seeing only the bad in people anymore. 23 years of my life were spent in combat, preparing for combat or hunting down, terrible people, who've done terrible things. As the daughter of a LEO, this song hits. I never knew when my father was on shift. I think my parents did that so my sister and I wouldn't get worried. As an adult, anytime I heard that was a shooting back home I would feel sick until I got hold of my father or my office would look into it because I was on shift. As a child I didn’t understand the weight of my dad being an officer. I was proud of course. I was used to him being called out during the night, popping in for holidays to eat and leave again. As I got older, I started to worry.. and pray he’d come home every day. I thank God he made it through, and has been retired for many yrs now. He carries the weight of all the faces he recovered, all the families he had to notify and hold. I’m sure there’s a lot I don’t know. I’m glad he still goes to eat with the men he worked with, and that they made it through too till retirement. Let us not forget our DNR (department of natural resources). I served for 40 years wearing the badge in various units over the years. My wife used to tell me to have fun when I left for work. When I got home she was waiting at the door with the babies. I asked her one day why she would tell me to have fun. She said that was her way of telling me to be careful. She couldn't say be careful. She said she would start thinking too much about all the things that could happen. I retired as a Sergeant. Had to have 2 surgeries from injuries over the years and she stuck by me. After I retired, her mother told me that my wife would cry when she knew I was in harms way and she was so relieved when I retired. I never knew what she went through. I really appreciate this song from George Strait.

Absolutely beautiful song for our brave men and women who put their lives on the line every moment they walk out their front door, and put on that badge. My husband was a Trooper for almost 20 years, and watched a fellow officer killed and took 3 bullets himself to protect complete strangers. It takes the bravest of the brave to risk everything, for those they never knew. Please show kindness and understanding... they have a job that not many could or would do. I am so incredibly blessed and grateful to have such a wonderful blue family, and will always love and support our men in blue.
