A few minutes in and I already like this family. I've seen a number of these episodes and it's rare when George turns up at the front door the people actually invite him in. I like that they did that.

Every roofing contractor I've come into contact with says to REMOVE ALL SHINGLES not to shingle over the old ones or part of the old ones. That bottom shingle will rot and cause problems down the road for the homeowner. Taking a shortcut might be the easy way but not the BEST WAY. I started in the building trade back in the early '70s held both county and State Master Plumbing licenses (included Southern Standard and National Standard Plumb and pipefitting abilities). Also held Liquid Chlorine Gas License for condo companies pools and on top of it, all was a firefighter driving a 1500 gallon forest service pumper truck to fires on condo properties. Now that I'm no longer in that trade doesn't mean I don't see wrong-doing and will call it out. Yeah, I do watch to see what is WRONG and am not afraid to call it out when I spot it. I also hold a BA in Theology '63, and Masters in Industrial Computers, Robotics, and Electronics Engineering '96.

Lisa from Delaware. I'm surprised there was no mention of a new HVAC system or an upgrade to the HVAC system with a air purifying system considering the child has CF. I've seen a couple of shows where they're dealing with a person with respiratory issues but that never seems to be an issue thats addressed.❤😊

Am I wrong or were they roofing over the existing roof and putting new siding over the existing siding ?
@chucklogan72964 жыл бұрын
A lot of rot in that roof it looks like? I would have thought that with the rot that you would have tore everything off the roof and laid new plywood down and then the roof? I did not see in your video where you took out all the rot around the windows and eves? I thought you might have taken all the old siding off and then papered it and the apply the new siding? I just think you might be covering up mold and mildew., The roof looked a little wavy in the middle when they were putting on new shingles

Just read all comments . .Living in France No knowledge of any of the Roof or wall materials used But rot is definitely a danger and must be completely removed are treated . Would not pass Health agency inspection in France .Or UK.

I have a few question about this. I did see then go over the existing roof end the outside walls. But what is there is an issue giong on under it? Did they check that? they didn't show it.
@jacquicoder71605 жыл бұрын
I agree, it unfortunately looked like they were just covering up some big problems. But I sincerely hope we just weren't seeing all that was done.
@marvinhess46165 жыл бұрын
Also they added about a ton of weight to the roof and they voided the warranty on the shingles by lawering them over other shingles now the roof will only have about a 10 to 15 year life not a 25 to 30 year life they just put a bandaid on a blown off leg because you can not no matter what see what damages have been done to the house from the water by covering it up I don’t care how many years you have been doing this you can not just hope that it’s ok you have to open it up and make sure that it is

Ya they just covered potential problems that could have really bad situations
@jujujewel21725 жыл бұрын
Marvin Hess I found that part all a bit confusing, from the footage, while they were talking about the roofing... On one hand in the close up filming on top of the roof, nailing new stuff over the old, then another view from the ground looking up, you see them doing what they were saying they would be, with the guys up there taking the old stuff off [first] But I think I have figured it out now
@coffeeaddict24315 жыл бұрын
to make it better for the baby, they should stop wearing shoes in the house. prepare a mudroom, leave everything there, and enter your home without bringing so much germs from outside.

I don`t like this rescue, if any problems under roof or walls shingles, they encapslulated it, shingling over shingles on roof, insulation over old wall shingles and new siding?

That's correct. I was thinking the same.

Watched a fair amount of these rescue renovations and although what George does is amazing to help so many in need, I feel the contact product placement and vocal advertising really spoils things as it feels like a scripted advert throughout. Surely the interval advertising is enough? Other than that, I think it is incredible how you help people.

This rescue looked like an episode of Pimp My Ride. At least 3 layers of old shingles. Pull off 1 layer then put a new top layer on? Poor workmanship. A few years from now this family will be faced with a massive tear off and repair bill. Plus the cost of a new roof. If you aren't going to fix it right, don't do it at all. Piss poor made for TV BS!
@miketackabery75212 жыл бұрын
I'm bingeing this show because it's great and kind and George is super entertaining... but this particular episode... that is one crappy job. Shingles over shingles? Insulation over siding? A deck when they've already got pavers? WTH? George: don't ever allow those guys on your show again!

roadwayrona wooden ones rot.
@roadwayrona5 жыл бұрын
Right - in what time period? 30 to 40 years? Even in Ireland people manage to prevent this for many, many years by treating wooden fences every year. You know, plastic doesn't have soul, it is very dead material - and if you absolutely cannot face the effort of maintenance and WANT plastic, be honest and let it LOOK like plastic!
@mdurham22465 жыл бұрын
So if you prefer a no maintenance fence it needs to be ugly? I don’t think this one had any sort of wood grain on it and anyone who sees it clearly knows that it’s PVC - there are trade offs to everything.
@shywolf45 жыл бұрын
Pvc is very easily cleaned and sanitized which is very important when you have a respiratory condition let alone a life limiting one. And the care a child with cf requires is so time consuming, the less maintenance needed the better. They have a limited amount of time with their child and likely don’t want to waste time on things like sealing a wood fence yearly.

As much as I like the show and as much as I appreciate the unexpected challenge of dealing with cystic fibrosis, I wish the show would not focus on self-serving people that request a hand out. Either find people that aren't looking to others to rescue them or focus on those that sacrifice and exhaust their own options without expecting a handout. Might sound harsh, but this show is a testament to how we over extend ourselves financially and how most of us fail to plan or prioritize. Buying a run down house full of mold even without dealing with cystic fibrosis while not having the means to clean it up and then wanting a handout is remarkably selfish. To me it has become a great teaching tool of what not to do when it comes to family planning, home buying and financial management. Having someone help people in over the heads is fine in principle but in my view at least is poorly executed sometimes and this is one of those times.
