Lovely memories. I remember riding on those yellow buses as a kid. We walk from school to the Stabroek Market and join our bus for a ride home. The government should have never got rid of the buses and the train as they were such a good mode of transportation for the people.

Certainly better years that leaves one nostalgic. Memories are all we have of those wonderful years. Quality of life, sadly started diminishing in the early 70s that resulted in masses of Guyanese migration. Best childhood for me.

Sorry I mean to say Georgetown wasn’t that developed back then, why did they get rid of the trains and cinemas,I remembers those days, I was born in 1957 Mahaica River, but living in the NY, since January 1973,but I still remember where I came from, the one and only Guyana, my god I always think of life in Mahaica River, my god what a life , happy.

They got rid of the cinemas but now we have two modern ones : one at Giftland and MovieTown. While it was not well developed back then, it seems as if for many years development was stagnant. The future looks more promising : 😁

You must have failed history. Guyana just came out of bloodshed between the two races a year before.

Wow, what a great video! I really wish they would revitalize Georgetown and bring back that proper vibe. Nowadays it's a confusion of noisy buses, rude people, trash and filthy mouthed curse yelling people on the streets. Sometimes I wonder if becoming independent was the right thing for Guyana.

Guyana becoming independent from England was certainly not a wise decision. When quality of life goes down and infrastructure debilitates this is a clear example of a country's demise.

We lost this Gem. Luckily I caught a glimpse of living in this Guyana growing up in the early 90’s I lived on Cummings streets and Alboystown since my parents lived apart. I had probably one of the greatest childhood experiences. My parents were true children of this culture.
