Keep being critical. Nothing wrong with it. I looked up the menu. If you are going to charge $36 for shrimp and grits, it better SLAP. You put yourself in the bullseye with prices like that. There can't be ANYTHING wrong with it at that price

When I moved to the DMV 25yrs ago, Georgia Brown's was the spot. The brunch was nice with a live jazz. Haven't been back in years. P.S - With all the food you have leftover, can you get it to go and give it to the homeless? Unfortunately, there are lots of people around the area that could use it.
@shawn0817 Жыл бұрын
If Im not mistaken they do take the food with then because Corey eats it since the DWDC food goes home with guests, if they bring tupperwear

Yes, I worked in the area for years and it was one of our go to restaurants.

DC is the south. Not the deep south but the south. Also, there are SO many generations of people from the deep south who moved here. The metro DC area or the DMV has great representation from the dirty south. However, finding good soul food in DC is hard. I have been here since 1983, and the pickings are very slim. I have had better luck with "hole in the wall" places. Unfortunately, those establishments are out of business or sold to "others" who just cannot get the recipes right. Great places that had excellent soul food but have lost its "favor" are: Florida Ave Grill (DC), Johnny Boy Carryout (DC), Suburban Seafood (MD), Henry's Soul Cafe (MD), and Hillcrest Carryout (MD). Many of the original owners have passed away. For the ones whose families have taken over, the food is not the same. A few of these are owned by people who have co-opted the culture but not the soul in the cooking. There have been other restaurants that tried hard but they are out of business and are too many to name here. DC is a foodie town for other cultures and have great options. Ironically though for soul food, the formerly known "Chocolate City", ain't it.

They used to have a great Sunday Brunch...part buffet and then a full meal. Couldn't eat the entrees and so we used to give it to unhoused families across the street at the park. I will still give it a try, but won't be at the top of the list. Try Kramer's Books and Afterwards (Kramer's) and Lauriol Plaza for absolutely fantastic food!!!

Just because people say its Southern or from Louisiana, really what they are saying is that is the way they are used to having it or it is what they are use to eating. Not all cooks, are good cooks. Bro I really enjoyed ur review it was funny, I like ur personally. I'm a DC native and nobody from DC eats at Georgia browns, it's to expensive for soul food but I guess they have to pay that expensive rent. Carolina kitchen would be a better choice and that's not saying much. Good soul food left DC by the 90s, I mean like the best hole in the walls ever, family run places. Now we got poshy black people opening up "soul food" places and it comes off expensive and awful.
