The tornado sideswiped the stadium and hit the parking lot instead. Had the tornado hit the building directly, it would've been a different story. A weak F0 or F1 tornado might have been survivable in a domed stadium direct hit but all bets are off for anything above that. But if a powerful tornado did direct hit the stadium during the game, most people would be SOL. The only thing I can think of if you can't get out of the rows and into a stronger part of the building would be to crouch down as low as possible between or under the seats, hang on, and say your prayers. :-/

It looked like the tornado crossed through the uplink signal which was either terrestrial microwave or satellite and that's what caused the picture and sound to fade out. The "CW" card was a placeholder in the event of loss of the uplink signal and because this card is rarely shown, there was no need to make it look new or 'flashy' . A few years back I was watching a live police chase in California and it moved on well outside of the city and the live helicopter feed started to lose it's signal from distance. As this happened, the test color bars came up with the station's call letters appearing as if this card was produced in the early 1980s, with the old style computer graphics "jaggies" on the call letters.

A domed stadium is NOT the best possible place to be. The best possible place to be is a basement or a small room on the lowest level of a building like a closet, bathroom or hallway, with as many walls between you and the outside as possible.
@JohnFlorence19905 жыл бұрын
Compare that to the alternative of the game not going into overtime, and people being outside heading to their vehicles or walking to buses. Domed Stadium is a safer place to be than outdoors, and that's exactly what he was talking about.
@ILoveOldTWC5 жыл бұрын
I understand exactly what you're saying. NO place outdoors is safe from tornadoes. This one was an EF2. However, large rooms such as sports arenas, school gymnasiums, church sanctuaries, auditoriums, cafeterias, are generally unsafe in tornadoes due to their free span roofs. If this had been a stronger tornado, the roof would've caved in, collapsing right on top of everybody.

I smoked cigs up there while i was waiting and i had an oz of "coca cola" and half oz of H in my pockets that i picked up in ATL otw there lol. The guy that got me the gig was also working that game... he was also one of my "customers" so he drove me to get the stuff then to the game where i met up with my people who went separately with tickets. We had season tickets that i gave to my friend and gf and her friend... I got the catwalk spot right above their seats at the 10th row of the top level. I tucked away a few shirts so i didnt try to throw any to them, i played it lagit. That catwalk was nuts tho. There was 3 different levels and we were on the lowest 2 catwalks. I was trying to hide the cigarette i had and not ash on anyone's helmets. I wasn't supposed to be able to get back in but my girl brought her ticket and one of the tickets my friends already used for me and i just acted like it was my ticket all along after leaving the office where i got paid. Sort of confusing but thats the jist of what happened. The guy who got me that gig later overdosed and passed away years later. He was a genuinely good dude who just had a problem. Sucks man.
