even the word "scrum" which is "შერკინება" (Sherkineba) has a very obvious military background. In the old days on the battlefield, it was done with armour and weapons and it meant life or death. Defeat meant the possible extinction of the Georgian people that lived in this tiny country, constantly exposed to invasions. So even now this forward push means everything for us. Once that DNA memory kicks in, its not about scoring points or bettering the opposite team. Deep in the guts, its still about life and death. In my opinion very similar to the Polynesian countries who have this martial background as well.

Dominating the scrum can help win matches, but if you look at the best teams around, their front five can all play like back row forwards. If Georgian rugby is looking to progress, it will have to develop less powerful but more mobile and agile front five forwards, perhaps rely more on scrummaging technique like the French, rather than just big plodding monsters. Argentina are doing this now to keep up with the southern hemisphere big three.
