I can't imagine anyone playing a piano more soulfully and with deeper feel than Bobby Floyd. This performance and his concert performance of The Man I Love are as good as it gets, to me. I would gladly pay for an entire CD of songs like that. Great job on the transcription! I had learned it somewhat by ear and didn't realize how much those wonderful voicings enhanced the performance.

Great work! I do a lot of transcribing work myself and I wanted to question why you chose to notate a Db instead of C# in the A7 chord at b10.4. This is just an example but I don’t understand how that enharmonic is could be better for the reader.

Beautiful, soulful, everything is just purely awesome with this song! As I was going through and analyzing the voicings and chords, I was able to understand the reasons for most of them. However, I didn't understand the reason for the progression in bar 15 ( I, I▵ (dominant), vi◦7/i, vib◦7/i, leading back to I). Can someone explain this to me?

month late response but don't think of it as an actual progression per se. just think of that dominant shell Eb A C moving down chromatically to eventually resolve back on the tonic C F A. pretty common gospel/soul trick

Haha I did the same on a surprise cruise. My husband was shocked I started with Liszt transcendental etudes . And a solo Prokofiev concerto for piano and some Alkan then ended up with Oscar Peterson.fats.art.chick. monk Hancock style pieces after having a few too many jack Daniels ;) the funny thing is I never really play the piano . Mainly sax violin and viola
