Being American citizens yet unable to vote for president, taxation without representation, not allowed access to SSI, having the highest tax rates in the U.S while also having another (recently newer) tax added onto the people. When the United States was born Puerto Rico already had a history of about 3 centuries...as a matter of fact our Spanish troops were sent to help Washington fight the British for their independance. Washington D.C. & the 5 Island Territories (Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, & American Samoa) should be granted full statehood already. Being an American living in these 6 Territories is today's version of "No taxation without representation," since the people there are guaranteed citizenship at birth, pay taxes using U.S. currency, serve in the U.S. military, & can vote in the Primaries, but they can't vote for President (except for D.C.) nor do they have Congressmen that can vote on legislation. Furthermore, with statehood, the number of Representatives in Congress stays the same, its just there would now be 112 Senators & 423 in the House, with 12 Senators & about 9 members of the House representing these 6 new states.

Disagree, Puerto Ricans have their own culture and we are very proud of that… and the issues in the island affects natives the most in a negative way. The gringos that move out there only benefit for the current situation. We shouldn’t mix these 2 situations by putting everyone in 1 box called citizens.
