Amazing video! I grew up in NW Georgia and spent many family trips in those mountains. The pocket wilderness near Cohutta is one of my favorites. Those mountain streams are spectacular! Thank you for allowing me to tag along with you!

Enjoyed the video. I live in Northeast Alabama and bought a Hiker trailer about a year ago. So far I’ve mostly done Florida State Parks on the gulf but would love to take the Hiker and GX470 across the Georgia Traverse but I am worried about getting in an area where I’d have to back out with the trailer. Probably best bet is to go stay at a State Park in GA and do some scouting on the Forest Service roads.
@Jade_Overland18 күн бұрын
@jmac13131 if ypu have the offroad version, you should be fine. Bring a chainsaw though. The only thing that would have ever turned me around up there is downed tress, but after my first trip I always bring a saw. You could always base cano out of Cooper's Creek campground as well. Then day trip the traverse of SM500 from there. It's a nice clean campground right on a creek.
@jmac1313118 күн бұрын
@ yeah, mine is basically a Mid-Range XL and has more ground clearance than the GX. Also has the articulating hitch, 270° awning, and 22g water tank underneath as well. Really more than I probably need but bought it used and got all the bells and whistles for less than what a new bare bones would have been. I’ve loved it at the campgrounds but just a little apprehensive about going off grid without a group.
@Jade_Overland18 күн бұрын
@jmac13131 makes sense. With a group it wouldn't be an issue. You get in a bind someone can winch the trailer from behind. Solo it's tough.

That event in helen is called AVF alpine volks fair. I was in town for it. During the week of the event they do a trail ride with Porsche cayenne and vw touaregs or similar vw audi Porsche vehicles.

It would have been cool running into that on the trail. We have local Audi's and Porsche that wheel down here, and I know they go up that way. Must be for that. There were some very cool builds driving around.

Just a heads up. That spot on the point at Lake Conasauga will get hammered by storms. Wind blows over the mountains, funnels down across the lake and blast that spot. FYI

Hey man awesome video. I have a question for ya. I have a 23 Ridgeline and I really wanna try the traverse. Not sure if you’re familiar with the Ridgeline but do you think it would be capable to make the run you did? I plan on lifting it a couple inches and adding bigger tires. 31”s actually. Thanks.
@Jade_OverlandАй бұрын
@Wiskerbisskit with 31s, you shouldn't have a hard time as long as you're on all terrain tires. The only parts that may be challenging are the river crossing, depending on the height of the water and if it's been raining really heavy, the mud can get deep in a couple spots. I did it in the GX the first time with just some tires and it was fine.

I live in the Northwest Ga area and have been wanting to do the whole traverse. I have done the Cohutta/Big frog loop sections and everything west of that. The east side ends right on the other side of my little town in Alabama. Question do you prefer Gaia over onx? I see you have a map that you would share and would possibly add me to it to try out Gaia to do this trip. i would prefer to run it west to east so i could end at home lol. Can Gaia easily be setup to run your file the opposite way? Thanks for any help. Love your setup and looks like you had a great time.
@Jade_Overland3 ай бұрын
@DougLedbetter-r2n the trip can be run either way. I have always run it west to east because it's easier for me, but the original route was east to west. Just know the western portion, from where it starts to Chatsworth, is highway and paved. Chatsworth really starts it for me. I prefer Gaia over OnX. I've tried both, and just like it better personally. Shoot me a private message with your email and I can add you to the map. It doesn't map it turn to turn for you like Google maps. I keep the map up on the stereo, and watch the vehicle marker, turning when necessary. At the speeds we run the trails it's easy. Have fun!

@jeremynewton666 34.8312049, -83.6764096 I believe is it. It was maybe 2 hours before I made it to Chattahoochee National Forest Campground. If you'd like, send me your email and I can add you as a user for my traverse map. It has the full map and all of my waypoints. All the camp spots are labeled with how many vehicles will fit. 5G is shown where you get phone reception, gas stations and all of your water crossings. I'll send you the Smokey Mountain 500 as well, since it's some of the same track, but has a ton of waypoints and is a slightly longer track.
