After spending nearly two weeks traveling around the country of Georgia earlier in the summer, I knew I had to try some incredible Georgian cuisine during my trip to LA! Come with me as I go on an epic Georgian food tour in Los Angeles, California!
My food tour began at a private residence in Glendale, a community that’s known for its Armenian population. I was there with Gourmet Republic, a food manufacturer that specializes in Georgian dishes and wine!
👕 DAVID’S BEEN HERE MERCH: teespring.com/...
🌎 MY TRAVEL/FOOD BLOG: davidsbeenhere...
Inside, I met with Lia and her team. She showed me their frozen beef and mushroom khinkali and their chicken pelmeni, which are Russian dumplings. She showed me how to make them!
Lia used to have her own restaurant and moved into manufacturing for Russian and Armenian markets. The khinkali are basically soup dumplings with pleats. The perfect khinkali has 20 pleats.
She boils the khinkali in salted, boiling water. You have to stir the water without touching the khinkali. Georgian khachapuri is basically bread stuffed with cheese.
Lia sprinkled chili flakes on the khinkali and then began building a salad with cucumber, tomatoes, peppers, and red onion. She then made a chunky, pasty dressing out of pulsed walnuts, vinegar, and water.
We had both mushroom and beef khinkali, khachapuri, string cheese, peppers, salad, herbs, two sauces, an Armenian wine, a Georgian wine, and some sparkling drinks. I added the tkemali (Georgian sour plum sauce) and ajika (spicy red pepper sauce) on the side.
The walnut salad was fresh and chunky. I loved the herbs and vinegar! The Zedazeni is a tarragon soda. It was super refreshing! I also enjoyed the beef khinkali. You take a bite and suck the soup out. They’re very tender and filling!
The muchroom khinkali was earthy and less soupy and went well with the ajika. Then, we toasted with the Kindzmarauli wine, which is a red semi-sweet wine. The khachapuri was also excellent and contained five cheeses.
The sulguni is the smoky string cheese, and the pepper was moist and had a heat that snuck up on me! It was all so good, but now I was ready to pop! We had some Armas dry red wine and then I headed to Khinkali House!
Five minutes later, I arrived at Khinkali House and started with some Aragats tarragon lemonade soda. I followed that with satsivi, a garlic-walnut paste with chicken and pomegranate seeds. You eat it with either puri (Georgian bread) or lavash!
I loved the garlic flavor and chunks of chicken. It also went well with the puri, but I limited the bread and just ate the rest of the satsivi straight! Next were beef, cheese, and fried mushroom khinkali.
The fried mushroom khinkali was earthy, crispy, and lightly fried. The beef was more soupy. I loved the broth and chunky meat! Finally, the cheese khinkali was also soupy and tasted like mozzarella cheese and herbs inside!
Next was the fried cheese khinkali, which was super filling and reminded me of a Venezuelan tequeno. Then, I went into the kitchen to watch them make khinkali!
My next stop was Tony Khachapuri in downtown LA. Inside, I met Armen, who would be making me an Adjarian boat-shaped summer truffle khachapuri! They also serve donuts, baklava, bread, salads, burgers, and sweets.
After watching him shape and bake my khachapuri, it was time to eat! He added an egg yolk at the end and shaved fresh summer truffle.
You break off the end and dip it into the cheese and mix in the egg. I loved the cheese and truffles! It was a cheese explosion!

I absolutely love the personality of David, how kind and easy going guy David is, he makes everyone comfortable and warm when talking to him, the way you compliment and describe the food you are eating to the owner just makes the day of the owner's. I hate when people don't watch full video and give their opinion before watching the full video. Keep going on man 🔥 Love from Hyderabad, India. 👍🏻

Because the owners of these restaurants are Armenians. There are not too many Georgians in LA, while Armenians are quite lots. By the number of Armenians LA is the second city in the World after Yerevan. We, Georgians, are very grateful to our Armenian brothers and sisters for the great job they do, popularizing our food and our culture!

That wine was Armenian , it was written on it in Armenian , sure he doesnt kbow how to read ., but travelers should know that in Ukraine in those regions pomegranads olives are not growing and be careful atributing greek or Spanish or Italian or Armenian drinks or food to cold countries .

I don’t get it… why Armenians are making Georgian food?!!There are no Georgians in US ?! Only Georgians know how to make real khachapuri and khinkali … that video so upsets me …and honestly, as Georgian - I can stated that all food they made had really nothing common with real Georgian authentic food - Sacivi- we are not using pomegranate and we are not eating with Lavash- mostly with Gomi !and we are not using Red pepper on khinkali- only Black pepper… and Armenian wine ?! Seriously!!?! It’s a joke … Armenian brandy - yes 👍, but definitely not wine … anyway- go visit Georgian family if you really like the Georgian Cuisine… otherwise it’s all fake

Well from what I know is that Georgian food is very popular with Armenians from Armenia and in Armenia. I visited Yerevan and everywhere at every restaurant there is Georgian food on the menu like Khinkali and khachapuri. I’m not sure why it’s so popular with Armenians but it’s also popular with Russians too. Also , I’m pretty sure there are not many Georgians in the US compared to Armenians so that’s why Armenians are making Georgian food

@@nataliesarkisian4941 so - it’s fine - they can do it - not only Georgian food , everyone can make any kind of food… my upsets is because of the video recorded - it’s like a commercial advertising Georgian food , but problem is the product they were making has nothing in common with real Georgian food ! It is a fake !

@@albanalban8387 Nah man we are making wine from 6000BC in Georgia, thats oldest known date for winemaking in history. Someone maybe made some sort of alchohol long time ago but wine made with grapes was originated from Georgia

@@TheEmmaTempest You're absolutely right! Don't pay too much attention to such stupid comments. We, NORMAL Georgians (who are the majority), understand this very well. We appreciate your efforts towards popularization of our culture and are grateful to our Armenian brothers and sisters!
