ARCANE fan reacts to Aatrox (Voicelines and Trailer) 2/2

SO I decided that I needed to go back and go into Aatrox' lore - especially the new darkin voicelines in a little bit more detail! So months later after part 1, I hath returned with part 2 :) Let me know how I did but also if I missed any key lore points or you have any answers to my questions, pls answer them :D

One thing i love about Aatrox’s interactions with the Darkin in LoR is that they show a sweet,compassionate side of him,he really did care for his followers and that just makes everything more heartbreaking imo Especially Joraal’s lines,that guy is my 2nd favorite Darkin for a reason,no major involvement in the story but his voice lines make my heart ache,it really shows the torture the Darkin went/are going through…

Quick note about Aatrox and his regret. In The Cage, he is talking about the regret he feels for using up his host body too quickly. He pushed his host too far, too fast and it fell apart, trapping him again.

Just a note, pantheon doesn't exists anymore, pantheon (and the stars in the sky that reprecented the constelation of war) were elimintad from existance by aatrox, but the human remained, Athreus.

Xolaani invented the blood magic that shaped the Darkin, and wanted to use it to control them. She is basically their creator, but they aren't too fond of the control part. Oh, and all those weapons (the fan, the staff etc.) do have Darkin versions, but they have no interactions with Aatrox so they weren't in the video. I'd especially recommend you check out Styraatu, the harp, their design is insane.

She did not invent hemomancy ffs. They all learn forbidden sorceries and mastered primal magics. Hemomancy and morphing their flesh into armor is just one of 'em. Think about it; if she invent it, Aatrox would hate using that if that were the case. She's just adept to it because she's a healer remember, not a warrior like the rest.

Hello, there are about 100 interactions between aatrox and champions in league of legends, there werent present on the first video :) and you can see how sassy he can be :D Honestly he has funniest interactions between champions

A thing to consider in current Aatrox is that his ultimate no longer revive him. This capacity was too... consistent in competitive League, and giving too many issues to balance(players were using him as an inititation tank since he wouldn''t die), so they decided to remove it. He still got to keep the burst movement speed, and the increase of Attack Damage, and instead of reviving, when he activates his ult, he gets increased healing, from his E passive (And i think also, from life steal/Omnivampirism... and maybe allied healing as well?). So instead of reviving when he would die, he just heals such ridiculous amount of health that he doesn't die in the first place In higher levels of play he was a menace not long ago(before preseason, he almost had no losing matchup). He received nerfs and recently, the items that were extremely good on him got nerfed, so he might be less frecuent, but remains as one of the hardest hitting champions on toplane

I would recommend doing gangplank at some point. Pretty badass bilgewater Character with multiple themes, a cool story and some great voicelines even if there are not that many voicelines i think. But his themes are very cool and the character is just pretty cool imo.

Xolaani was the healer among the ascented, using her blood magic to heal the wounds of the ascented who fared against the void. But when the war among the crazed ascented took place, Xolaani who already conteminitaed the ascented with her healing blood magic, made them into the darkin, trying to control them with her blood magic. Thus the Ascented became the darkin. Her mind set was, if she control all of them, she can force them into peace.

Well hello there, I have no idea if someone already told you this before, but if not, then I'll gladly will tell you more. So as you already know, there is slowly building up an event on Runeterra. One that can destroy it, but before we get into it, let me tell you the side story behind it. So after battle agaist Void, the ascended soldiers became darkins and as you already know they started battle against each other, but this is about what happened in that times. Xolaani was a healer and she started meddling with blood magic. With that she started "upgrading" other darkins, but little did they know she actually could manipulate with them. Basicly they became her puppets as already was told in the voice lines and that's why every darkin is so mad at her. After that the imprisonning darkins in their weapons happened and pretty much a lot of them were forgotten. Till we got Aatrox, Kayn and Varus. Not long ago Master yi found Xolaani's weapons and he protected it, but Kayn found out and he tried to get it. As he killed almost everyone protecting it, one girl actually touched the weapon and that's how Xolaani escaped the weapons. She took over the body. Now lets get back to our current situation on Runeterra. Aatrox found out about Xolaani. With that said he called aout to all the darkins. Waking them up and summoning them to Shurima, where Xolaani is collecting her power, so the finale battle can happen. Since it's such threat to runeterra Ryze and Kayle are comming there to stop them and with them also Mihira, The Aspect of Justice is also heading there. This is all that we currently know, but oh god. Since even the Mihira herself is heading there, that means it's gonna be huge. That's probably all that I know about that, but for sure I skipped some stuff, but I believe that some people will gladly add it. BTW look at Aatrox's level up poster in Legends of Runeterra, you can see him and Xolaani fighting and Ryze + Kayle trying to stop them.

All darkins have been sealed throughout runeterra, baalkux si sealed at bandle city, joraal is sealed in demacia, rhaast is sealed at noxus (but in LOR he's now sealed in shadow isles just like Taarosh, anaakca is sealed at freljord, praa is sealed at ionia (spirit realm specifically) just like varus and xolaani, ibaros is sealed at bildgewater, naganeka is also sealed at noxus, styraatu is sealed way down at zaun, horazi is sealed at shurima.

LoR is super non-canon, but the Darkin Saga was the most interesting story-telling in Runeterra for a long time (mostly because there has been no storytelling in Runeterra for like 1 and a half years now but I digress). Instead of just doing random cards they were telling a story across all of 2022 through several expansions. Basically, Kayn attacks Master Yi looking for another Darkin Weapon, this being Xolaanai. The Wuju were keeping it safe for generations and Master Yi's prodigal student, Jun, was backed into a corner by Kayn and the Shadow ASsassins during the attack and was forced to take up Xolaani to defend herself. Xolaani is a bit of a flawed altruist, she feels bad about the horrific shit the Darkin did back in the day and now seeks to "protect" mortals, by stealing their free will with hemomancy and ensuring they never die, so Jun loses her body but her consciousness lives on in Xolaani unlike other Darkin hosts who effectively die if they are not strong of will enough to resist like Kayn. Varus begins listening to his twin hosts (why is not clear, but w/e) and goes semi-good guy, collecting a band of mortals to stop Xolaani before she can enact her plan, it doesn't work however. Afterwards, Aatrox comes back as well, feeling Xolaani's return and sends out a call for all Darkin to once again fight under his banner. Xolaani bloodbends/mindcontrols a couple for herself and Darkin WWE Smackdown vs RAW 2022 begins in Shurima, around an idol of blood called the Altar of Blood (fitting) that Xolaani plans to use to basically control all mortals and Darkin. In Targon, Kayle and Morgana's mother Mihira finally returns from the Celestial Realm as does Kayle herself, feeling a disturbance in the Force, the Aspect of Justice and her daughter go to Shurima to kill the Darkin before the conflict gets out of hand, Ryze knows Kayle as they're basically the same age and they stand for the same cause so he realizes she's returned and goes as well. Aatrox and Xolaani are duking it out when Mihira and Kayle and Ryze show up and Mihira is taken over by Xolaani, the snake-lady thing is Xolaani after she's stolen Mihira's form for her own. Ryze pushed into a corner is forced to use the World Runes to obliterate Xolaani as she's now basically a god times two now, after a little internal strife he does what he's always sworn not to do and whether the Runes work or not is actually kind of ambiguous and that's basically the short of it. Really not bad for LoR which is usually not that great in the storytelling department.

I'm only 2 minutes in, so maybe she discovers the mistake, but in both this and the last Aatrox video she refers to the aspect of twilight, currently Zoe, as the one who showed how to imprison the darkin. I seem to remember however that Zoe was not the aspect of twilight at the time of the darkin wars, instead being Myisha, a character I don't think we know much about. I believe the misunderstanding came from a reference to the aspect of twilight in Aatrox's lore, having a picture of Zoe embedded, but I believe that is just because of the wiki page for aspects/aspect of twilight features Zoe as the current one

Spotlight is out dated infortunatly Revive wasn't kept but vamp was. Gameplay wise that's comfortable, balance wise that's a pain that necessite a lot of number changes. Theme/lore wise revive in his victims is/Was the very escence of Aatrox he could already revive in his old version & it was his passive. If i could choose i'd gladly tak vampirism away and have revive back... but to be fair both was over loaded at least

he regreted killing off his host in the story, he would have to wait for another creature to pick him up. he saw it as a misstep that will trap him longer, not regretting the fact that he's killing people. and aatrox's purpose is to either destroy the world for him to die, or hope someone that could kill him stops him from doing so.

It's sad how Aatrox got nerfed so shortly after he was released, because as usual, the people playing popular champions that bring in the most cash, cried massive rivers how Aatrox was overpowered, because they couldn't just dash in and kill him instantly. So many other amazing reworks had that nerf, which is so sad, just because people had to think and change tactics, the unique champions just get sent to the nerf room

The "darkin" word means "the fallen" or Ascended who look like nothing and behave to what they used to be. Ancient people would call Renekton and Xerath a darkin too. Those Xolaani created is just like Vladimir without the formation/s of metals into their flesh. Afterall, The darkins powers are now forgotten because of their imprisonment along with their celestial ideals' essence

Taarosh isn't a spy he just gets controlled by Xolaani again when he charges to fight her before Aatrox and the rest of the darkin get to her, we see that in the altar of blood where he tries to attack buffed Xolaani from that point onward he most likely is controlled by her and his host dies by Aatroxs or Kayles/Mihiras hand.

My girl, it sounds like you need another does of Necrit to get all your story fixes. You think he didn't immediately release a video or 2 or 3 on the entire updated darkin story when Runeterra's expansion came out? DO YOU? Nah that'd be crazy. He's got you covered. Also Aatrox has been THE definitive and most played pro top lane pick for what feels like 2 years now. He's definitely picked fairly often, but he's not easy and harder to make work for the majority of players. Same with Azir, Ryze, Fiora, and a bunch of other champs who are forever picked in pro play but almost never in the general public solo que.

Xoolani is complicated,but making a VERY long story "short" Xolaani was a mere healer when she was a Ascended,but a talented one,after the Ascended became mad and started chaos in Runeterra Xolaani was the only one (as far as we know) who knew that what was happening was not right and she had to somehow stop her own brothers and sisters,so she invented blood magic and thought it to the other Darkin with the plan of using her superior knowledge of blood magic to be able to control any other Darkin so that they would stop fighting each other,but her plan wasn’t successful and although she did manage to control some Darkin most of them just ended up being stronger and causing more chaos than before because now they had even stronger and constantly evolving bodies thanks to the blood magic,Aatrox saw this as a act of cowardice and betrayal. In the current days the weapon she was trapped in was in Ionia guarded by Master Yi,Kayn tried to get the weapon because "if i managed to conquer one Darkin weapon why not another" and in a moment where Kayn and his cultist followers were winning Jun who was a disciple of Master Yi picked up Xolaani’s weapon in hope of that making her powerful enough to fight Kayn and protect her master,that was her worst mistake as Xolaani immediately overtook her body,with Xolaani’s awakening Aatrox also awakened and since Aatrox was a general Ascended (and them became a general Darkin) several other Darkin also started to wake and went to Icathia to meet their general to fight against Xolaani for what they could only hope would be the last time. But after so long Xolaani’s mastery over blood magic was unmatched and far stronger than before,not only was she evolving much faster she could also effortlessly control almost any Darkin,but because of the crazed whispers from the Void that every Darkin has/had now Xolaani had also gone mad,her ideal of love and compassion was twisted and now she wanted to overtake all of Runeterra and merge everything with her,forming a big,happy "family" In the final brawl Aatrox and his army meet with Xolaani by mount Targon and fought,the Ascended desperately sent down Kayle and divine beings to purge the Darkin and save the land,Mihira (Kayle’s mother) even sent a messenger to ask Ryze for help with the world runes because Xolaani was just too strong,at one moment during the battle,Anaakca,a strong and loyal to Aatrox Darkin fell,Xolaani took the chance and with her blood magic quickly assimilated her body to the Darkin’s body,now she was unstoppable,at the end of the battle we don’t even know how many died,or if Aatrox was still alive,all we know is that Kayle was still standing,watching in horror as Xolaani was so strong that she even fused her already mangled body with Mihira’s body after defeating her,even the aspect of justice had fallen before Xolaani’s unmatched powers of evolution and adaptation,the void could never even dream of comparing to her,now all Kayle could do was wait and pray that a miracle (Ryze with world runes) would happen… Yeah she’s my favorite Darkin :D

I think that that ending is open ended, either aatrox wins and everything ends, xolaani wins and everything's assimilated, or kayle and ryze win so aatrox and xolaani kick rocks

As almost everything in Legends of Runeterra its more of an what if scenario. since all of the story that happens in the presumed present time only happens if Jun picks up Xolaanis blades. Something that only occurs if Kayn triumphes over Rhaast and becomes Shadow Assassin Kayn. He will be occupied with Master Yi as seen in his card and the Master Yi Lvl 2 card. If Rhaast takes over Kayn he can be seen holding Xolaanis Bloodletters so everything else with Xolaani wouldnt happen. But since you can see Xolaani in her new form with Juns mask in so many different cards in LoR it is save to assume that this the main time line and at least LoR-Canon. Alas if there isn't any story about all of this on Universe its not LoL-Canon. Anyway, great summary nonetheless. And I must say: Xolaani is also my absolute favourite Darkin ;)

Think about it; if she invent it, Aatrox would hate using that if that were the case. She's just adept to it because she's a healer remember, not a warrior like the rest.

It sucks that what happened to Aatrox. Dude was a hero who was corrupted by the void while defending his home. Existence owes him everything and they chose to imprison him instead of just killing him. That fucking blows. So although Aatrox feels like he could be an endgame boss in a raid. I'm starting to think Aatrox will be the Illidan of the riot MMO. He'll turn against his dark ambitions to fight against Xolaani who looks far more corrupted by the void. She also wants to control the other Darkin as she is the mother of blood magic. Hopefully we are able to redeem Aatrox and his most moyal Darkin. They just wanna be free of their curse. They cant help that the void fucking corrupted them. It was either fight and be corrupted or let the world die... like.... fuck man. So think about the history. Xolaani is the mother of blood magic, Vladimir was sent as a ward by his family to stay under the Darkin or whatever. He learned blood magic and is now in Noxus. The war happened, and then the fall of Camavor happened. Viego is Vlad's nephew so thats another tie. Mordekaiser is also in the middle of Noxus, in the immortal bastion. Thresh is now Noxus... wow. I never realized how much things are going to lead into one another.
