Filipinos speak Filipino generally everywhere around the Philippines. Tagalog is actually the equivalent dialect. but every region in the Philippines has its own dialect, or two or more dialects different from Tagalog.. However, Tagalog is the main medium of communication of filipinos when communicating with fellow filipinos from other regions in the country, mainly to understand each other..On the otherhand, English is an official language as well, widely spoken and used around the Philippines, in business and trade, education, media, politics, religion, etcetera...

Filipino is the national language of the Philippines based on Tagalog and all the other major Philippine languages like Ilokano,Bikolano, Hiligaynon,Cebuano,Waray etc. There are between 120-180 spoken languages in the Philippines.

A dialect is a variation of a language. Like Tagalog spoken in Manila is slightly different from the Tagalog in Bulacan. Tagalog in Batangas is different from the Tagalog in Laguna. That is a dialect.

I don't even understand that foreigner's statement. What the heck does he means that Philippine people learns english not to speak foreigner bu to speak to Philippine people. HUH?!!!! Why will you apeak english to other Filipino people when every Filipinos are speaking Tagalog? How would they understand each other if thw other person is speaking Engliah and the other is Tagalog. My hunch is that little girl is NOT A FILIPINO. Because if you ask anybody from the south of the Philippines whom they call each other by "Inday" or "Bay" what their language is, they will respond in their dialect NOT Philippines. Because everybody knows Philippines is a COUNTRY NOT A LANGUAGE. TAGALOG IS THE LANGUAGE, OR VISAYAN IS THEIR LANGUAGE which is a dialect in the south of the Philippines which she calls the little girl "Inday". Even the guy cannot wvwn speak English properly. He cannot even express himself correctly with his comments.

I think what he said also makes sense especially for people who grew up in province and doesn't know how to speak Tagalog. I had a classmate in high school who grew up in Cebu and transferred to our school. Since we don't speak bisaya and she doesn't speak Tagalog, we usually converse in English.

Rather than asking what language is spoken in the Philippines, we should instead ask how many languages are spoken there and by what proportion of the population, The Philippines is home to between 120 and 187 languages, including a wide range of native languages mainly from the Malayo-Polynesian language family group.. Not only is English an important language for politics and trade, it has also provided many Filipinos with access to the international jobs market.

Tagalog is used in Luzon, mainly the places surrounding Manila which is the capital of the country. The Tagalog language was then used as the national language of the Philippines a few years later and was called Filipino not Pilipino. There is a difference between the F one and the P one. "Filipino" is the language and "Pilipino" are the people from the Philippines. I am a Pilipino, speakes Filipino and Tagalog and learning Kray-a and the Hiligaynon language under my father's family Tagalog IS A LANGUAGE and the LANGUAGE MADE TO BE THE NATIONAL LANGUAGE. But the name "Tagalog" is indeed from the context "taga-ilog" because parts of Luzon has many rivers
