The SEO Intelligence Agency tested geo-tagging on WordPress sites and came to the same conclusion - no increase in ranking. years ago Matt Cutts from Google said that Google reserves the right to use image metadata for ranking, but they haven't done it yet. Nice video.

You mentioned a good point. good job for the video. Adding geolocation to photos is a waste of time. Instead, photos added by customers are more valuable. As a result, competitors can be avoided by offering incentive campaigns/discounts to customers.

Hi Luc. Ok it may not pay dividends for my Google business listing and it may not rank my Google listening higher. But does it rank my website higher if I am trying to rank for a specific area. Let's say I am a pest control company and I want to rank in a certain area of my town. Will geotagging that area in my website rank that page better?

No, No and No. As I explained in the video, it doesn't help your website to rank for the coordinates you add to your images. Think of it logically, if I add coordinates for new York to my photos and my business is located in Los Angeles, what is the likelihood for my site to rank in new York? ZERO

@@rankingacademy Hi again, thanks for the response. I just wanted to clarify. If I am trying to rank 20 pages on my website for several towns around my city, doesn't each page get ranked differently? In other words 1 great page for 'West pymble' with geotagged images for that location and then another page for my pest control business trying to rank for 'gosford' with geotagged images for Gosford within the page. So each page set up for different suburbs in my town all with geotagged images throughout. I thought that each page has its own ranking power within my website. I could be wrong

It' still a no. Whether it's around your city or not it won't make a difference. Geo tagging is a waste of time. Focus on your content instead.

Hi otti. I always name my image file with a name that's relevant to the page itself and of course an ALT tag. I don't add location information in there

My guess would be that it's better to Save and fill in the picture file Detail fields with the keyword/phrase you want to rank for. Such as my-ranking-phrase.jpg and in the detail, add "my-ranking-phrase"

I haven't delved into geo tags since I first researched SEO (basically what makes Google Google) and found out about web scrapers. Geo tags have again come to my attention in regards to RSA security alerts. I was wondering if Google had any geo tags for individual KZbin streaming accounts as a webscraper would likely only unearth the location of Google servers as the hosting service as opposed to individual domains or websites. If geo tagging is a waste of time, then John McAfee is right again and most security alerts are more pomp than circumstance

Hi Rodolfo. Not sure what you mean by "details" but generally speaking I always make sure I call the photo files a relevant name with a keyword in it and never forget yo add an Alt tag.

I came across a video that says that in the same place where you check for coordinates, on the first section (called description) to add keywords on the "tag" section, and a short keyword rich paragraph on the comment section. I'm not sure if I agree the fact that the image that you downloaded from the Google local places did not have the latitude or longitude actually shows me that Google goes out of their way to strip that information out smell what else uses it to fool Google the other part where you said that another company 3 over several weeks They found no improvement doesn't mean Their findings are conclusive there might have been other factors that were taken into effect I welcome your feedback

FALSE! If you ONLY did what you show in the video I agree. However, go to the video at 2:24 and look to the right 2 boxes at the bottom next to the location titled "keywords/tags" and "description". Fill these two boxes out and you are going to SMASH everyone on GMB. Plain and simple.

I'm afraid your logic seems flawed, your assumption that geotagged images have no benefit is based on Google removing exif data at some stage during or after upload processing, probably during compression. This is similar to visiting a restaurant and assuming they don't serve food because all the guests had already eaten. Even though you can no longer see the food doesn't mean it wasn't enjoyed by the guests. It is highly likely that Google reads the metadata on image processing, especially when uploaded using the GMB API. Google Lens also effectively demonstrates how well Google can 'read' images and any text overlays. Without single variable tests, it would be foolish to assume Google simply ignores data it consumes, especially as it has invested millions in MOM, its multimodal AI system designed expressly to better understand the semantic web and in particular images, video and audio.

No no, it is not flawed. Even if what you claimed was true, Google automatically associates images you load on your listing with your location making geotagging a redundant exercise. Moreover, if ranking was as simple as adding geotags to an photos It would be just a matter of loading tons of geotagged images to your listing and wait to climb the rankings. Finally, I thoroughly recommend you read the studies and articles that confirm geotagging doesn't work based on figures (this one in particular: www.sterlingsky.ca/geotagging-photos-impact-ranking/). Alternatively you can continue geotagging your photos or your client's photos if you think it's an effective strategy.
