Body punching highlights of the former Middleweight world champion. The G Man!
PayPal Donations: hanzagod@mail.com
Gerald McClellan - Is an American former professional boxer who competed from 1988 to 1995. He is a two-time middleweight world champion, having held the WBO title from 1991 to 1992, and the WBC title from 1993 to 1995. McClellan was forced to retire from boxing after a severe brain injury suffered during his final fight in 1995, a loss to WBC super middleweight champion Nigel Benn. Known for his formidable punching power, The Ring magazine rated McClellan at number 27 on their list of "100 Greatest Punchers". In 2007, McClellan was inducted into the World Boxing Hall of Fame in California, not to be confused with the more widely recognized International Boxing Hall of Fame in Canastota.

In my opinion is he would have continued with Manny Steward, ha would have a greater career that he had, and of course, he wouldn't be in the conditions he is right now.But that is just my opinon.What do you think?
@hanzagod
@hanzagod 5 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately I think the neurological issues he suffered from started in the first Julian Jackson fight so McClellan was in a way destined to be brain damaged from boxing. If Benn didn't do it to him someone else would have and I don't think Steward would have had a big effect unless if he pulled him out of the Benn fight and told him to retire.

@@hanzagod true, i forgot that.Now i remember, yes, inmmediately at the end of the 1st Jackson fight, McClelland was already blinking in the same way he didi in the Benn' fight.Is strange, that IMO, a fighter with such a chin like G Man, was so "sensitive" to punches in that particular way.There is always the discussion about his corner did in the Benn Fight, about the referee, and about the rabbit punches and headbutts by Benn, could i( and anyone else who read this) knoe what you think about that? PD:Sorry for my english

G-Man was such a ferocious and intimidating fighter. To be able to take Julian Jackson’s shots (the hardest puncher and boxing) and shake it off like nothing and then proceed to knock him out is scary. He was a bad man who took pleasure in hurting his opponents in the ring. He had the tools to be even greater and dominant but sadly that wasn’t to be...

The actual story from the boxing insiders is... it was the shots he took from Jackson in their 1st match that inevitably caused his... now... devastating brain injury. Not DIRECTLY nigel benn. It was reported at his gym that's wen they noticed the erratic blinking and the pushing out of the mouth piece wen sparring. In other words, any other power puncher he hd faced instead of Benn...it would hv likely ended the same way. A grenade waiting to explode...

Hi folks. Lets take a trip down memory lane. On the 25th February 1995, Gerald McClellan met a 31 year old Blackman from the U.K called Nigel Benn. It was to be the most punishing fight of McClellans career. His opponent Nigel Benn was not a boxer. He was a notorious bar room brawler who intially took up boxing as a way of managing his anger. Coupled with his anger issues, Benn had a reputation for being one of the dirtiest fighters. After much hype, the fight got underway and McClellans came out in his usual explosive style. After knocking down Benn in the first round, Benn somehow got back up and proceeded to trade blows with McClellan. Benn was not in the same class as McClellan, but somehow he miraculously stayed toe to toe with McClellan during that fateful night punching McClellan throughout the following rounds. Benns punching delivery was sloppy and his footwork dodging was shabby. But his punches miraculously still connected! In contrast Gerald was fast, super co-ordinated and classy. Both men traded good punches complete with their contrasting styles. Benn employed his trademark dirty tactics by rabbit punching McClellan in the back of the head in every round as the tv footage clearly shows. Sometime during the round 9, McClellan sustained a serious brain injury from Benns punches and he started blinking heavily as he was in pain. His gum shield started hanging out and he started breathing erratic as if he was struggling to get enough oxygen. He movements slowed and he started backing off but he kept his guard up at all times. The round ended but McClellan was visibly hurt. During that round McClellans punches had suddenly become sloppy and apart from the exception of the odd punch, they were just not connecting. A bloodclot had formed in McClellans brain from the gruelling punches he had received. Both men were very tired but Benn, despite his sloppy style, was now getting the upperhand as McClellan was clearly injured. During round 9 Benn can be seen missing a punch but the sheer force of his punch made him fall forward and he headbutted McClellan who tried get out if the way - but McClellan was unsuccessful. Boxing experts have analysed the video footage and have stated that this accidental headbutt made things worse for McClellan added to the fact that his condition was already getting worse due to the brain injury he sustained sometime during round 9. McClellans punches clearly confirmed in the ringside video footage had become sloppy and his movements had become slow. His gum shield was hanging out and he can be seen blinking as if he was in pain. His breathing was erratic as if he was struggling for oxygen. He nevertheless continued. In round 10 Benn came out and after the two men were trying to punch eachother Benn caught Gerald with two punches. The first punch made McClellan go down on one knee but he got back up. The second punch 20 seconds later made McClellan go down on one knee again and the referee stepped in because McClellan made no effort to get back up. McClellan remained down on one knee and the referee began counting down. To everyones shock, McClellan allowed himself to be counted out. The fight was over and McClellan staggered back to his corner and sat down on his stool. IT WAS A FATEFUL NIGHT AS WITHIN 2 MINUTES MCCLELLAN FELL INTO A COMA WHILST STILL IN THE RING FROM A TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY. HE HAD ACTUALLY FALLEN OFF HIS STOOL. So there you have it folks. Gerald was the boxer - Benn was the brawler. But Benn possessed the volcano heart of a lion - and somehow he miraculously managed to pull of one of the biggest upsets in boxing history!

@@irvinmorales1409 Exactly that. I can see why he thought he wouldn`t have to go the distance the way he blasted everyone out and took the best shots Julian Jackson could dish out. But a decent corner would of made him know there`s always someone who takes shots they shouldn`t be able to take or has a style you just can`t work out. By the way underestimated as Benn was Mclellan was in a different league.

@@ohrealy1 Benn on his best night would've been trouble for anyone including the G Man. G Man had never even been past six rounds so lack of experience certainly played a role. Also, I firmly believe that his brain injury was built up over time. He tanked Jackson's punches, participated in brutal sparring wars in the Kronk gym with guys like prime James Toney, Tommy Hearns, and other heavyweights. He was no defensive wizard either so he was there to be hit sadly.

@@irvinmorales1409 yeah I watched some of the sparring he did with Toney classy stuff. Interesting how Toney struggled when the other guy didn't come forward

@@ohrealy1 Yeah, Toney was an unusual dude to say the least. Canelo kind of reminds me of him. He doesn't do well as the aggressor.
