Re: a6700 overheating. The results from different channels are all over the map. My copy did quite well comparatively, but if you're considering purchasing this camera, I'd err on the safe side and go with the 40-50 minute results just to be safe. I talked with Jordan from PetaPixel and we tested almost identically and I got nearly an hour longer than him. Not sure how to explain that. 🤷♂ I'll test a retail copy when I can and update you. 👍

The fact that this camera has breathing compensation and the a7 SIII still doesn't is yet another slap in the face from Sony. @@ZeroFilmClips Not necessarily. We’re more likely to buy into the Sony ecosystem if we know our cameras will last. And you’re discounting lens sales. Not to mention that the X-S20 has much better screen resolution, a joystick, can shoot 30fps stills (20 with unlimited jpegs), fuji colors, better app, and $550 cheaper where I live. For Aps-c Fuji is clearly a better choice with a much wider range of bodies and lenses, with the potential for a very small setup like the X-E4 plus 27 f2.8 or one of the f2 lenses, or a high end setup like the XH2 cameras, with high resolution screens and viewfinders, dual cardslots and great ergonomics. I have waited 3 years for this to be released and I am honestly a little disappointed. The a6600 and the A6700 have the same EVF with 2.36 million dots. A6600 rear screen has 921,600 dot, A6700 has 1.04m dot. One card slot, again. I feel Sony could have really knocked it out of the park and could have charged us a premium and I would have paid it. If you are upgrading from an a6400 or a6500 then the A6700 is a no brainer. For me, I am more likely to jump to Fujifilm.

@williamhelena7592 Жыл бұрын
you gotta think about the market they’re targeting here. most people buying a 4k cinema camera aren’t using it to stream. and if you are streaming at that caliber, you are likely using an ATEM switcher. This is probably targeting streamers or smaller productions on a budget
@Kaotix_music Жыл бұрын
@@williamhelena7592 the idea is my camera is the same sensor, better guts inside (or probably the same) and something as simple as a software feature they exclude from the more expensive camera, but put it in the less expensive camera. The fact of the matter is - USB streaming IS in the FX30 and FX3. These are "video" cameras. The A6700 is a "hybrid" camera. Not really meant for video, but there if you want it and takes really nice photos. They give THAT camera 4k 30fps streaming and leave us stuck at 1080. Yes, for more serious work with more than ONE camera - i would use an ATEM switcher. But what if I want one camera, one angle, plugged straight into my computer to get that stream? I only get 1080p? Its a video first camera. That makes no sense. The A6700 is not a video first camera, but when it comes to the USB Streaming option - suddenly it is now? Its about having the options. An option they can easily put into those cameras with a simple firmware update. But we all know how Sony likes to be with firmware updates to give us features thats on the camera that came out today, but not a camera that just came out 6 months ago.

FINALLY! This is exciting to me! I’m a hybrid shooter with focus more on video. Currently own a7s3 which I use professionally and love, but it’s not the most compact or easy for travel vlogging due to weight. Also have a ZV1 which I honestly detest and never use (menu, battery life, no viewfinder, annoyingly not wide enough). Before these two I bought a Fuji XT4 which I adore for photography, but stabilisation and focus just don’t cut it for video especially travel vlogging. So basically I have 2 cameras I love using one amazing for video and one amazing for photography. I didn’t really want to invest in more Fuji glass just for photography and also because I was hoping Sony would bring something out that gave me the higher video frame rates at 4K, a decent sensor, a viewfinder, AND a smaller body. The a6700 is literally what I’ve been waiting for. I’ll probably sell my XT4 & ZV1 and buy the a6700 with the new APSC 10-20mm PZ and also use my existing 35mm glass with the 1.5 crop (16-35 Zeiss, 24-105G). I know the a7c2 is coming, but it will be more expensive, heavier and likely top out at 60fps which for me isn’t enough as I do shoot a lot of B-roll at 100/120. I hadn’t seen much about the mic but in this test it sounded pretty good, so for indoor quiet settings I think it would be enough for me. I have the Sony B1M if I need it. Outside or for my pro work. VERY excited about breathing comp and focus heat maps which I’m still a bit miffed Sony didn’t bring to the a7s3 (whatever over it now lost hope!). Will still use my a7s3 for much of my pro work and studio based stuff. a6700 will be an opportunity to really really enjoy travel again and not take a ton of kit everywhere. I cannot wait! Thanks Gerald - great review as always.

That's not to say we won't see 4k120 in future full frame cameras but at the moment the only ones that do it are $4-5000. I suppose since this isn't out yet, hard to tell how big the difference in price will be. Here in Europe at least, the S5II is one sale in stores now for a similar price to the A6700's RRP. Making it hard to see why a hybrid shooter would choose this over the Panasonic S5II. The two best reasons I can think of might are the Sony lens ecosystem and that Sony has the most capable PDAF system. It's also significantly more compact/lightweight, if that's an important consideration. But for me, I see more in favour of the Panasonic S5II. It's full-frame and has a full-size HDMI output, dual memory slots, shoots 6k video, has effective in-body cooling, the most capable IBIS, V-Log, much better LCD & EVF, an 8-way joystick and generally better thought out UI/OS. For example, begone jangly triangles. Seems like Panasonic are trying and mostly succeeding in giving people what they want and need, for a value price. Where Sony continue to offload deliberately badly engineered (overheating) and artificially cobbled (no dual-slots, mini HDMI, out-dated LCD/EVF) 'hybrid' cameras on the public and not following through on firmware updates. Because they don't want to sell you one good value hybrid value that fits the purpose. They want to sell you a good video camera that is hobbled at stills (FX-30) and a good stills camera (A7IV/A6700) that is hobbled at video (overheating/missing features). For the overheating tests, 4k @ 80F/26c isn't hot enough for the Sony to be considered passable. For many use cases it needs to keep on recording at 90F/32C even in direct sun. It speaks volumes that people are 3D printing custom fan mounts for the A7IV and making little sun umbrellas to cover them from the direct sun. Sony, as Elvis sung, don't be cruel ;)

@@gbwalther3198 lol, I suppose here they are similar enough words to both apply. Imagine if the MacBook Air shut off randomly when ran at full load in 30C ambient. People wouldn't just shrug and pass it off as acceptable. They'd probably laugh at a fanless engineering design. And those cost less than these Sony camera bodies. And a video camera is the definition of time critical environmentally exposed equipment. Seems likely to me that these will have shorter lifespans than designs with fans. Maybe there will be a graveyard for brave A series cameras that went into 4k battle in the field without little sun umbrellas and homemade 3D printed fan accessories.
