We had a frost here in Louisiana last night, 32 down to 30 between 11pm until after 9am this morning, and my Dwarf Everbearing Mulberry trees aren`t even wilted but my fig trees are done. That was a surprise.

It's amazing how frost affects certain areas of your yard. Were these next to each other?
@baneverything5580Ай бұрын
@@RossRaddi The mulberry trees are scattered around the yard to distract the birds from the figs in the future and some are near the figs and one is out in the open between the woods and the fig trees near where I feed the wild birds. That will be their tree and when I want berries I`ll cover a couple of the others. I had a little rooted cutting in a pot that I forgot to bring inside and the soil was partially frozen but the tree only has leaf damage on the tender new leaves on the very top. The older leaves on the trees looked white and frozen early this morning but they`re fine and healthy. Strange! All my basil and peas were frozen and dead and the fig tree leaves look completely cooked too.

Yeah I can be a fruit lover too. One year I plan to have space and will then send you one of my nice and long emails for help picking. Thanks as always

Nice to know new verity’s ,Is not the same variety grown for cocoons producing feeding silk worm ,they were too small like one branch with fruiting.

One of the things people worry about with mulberry is the root development and the root damage caused. How close to the house are yours? And what does the root system look like?
@RossRaddi5 ай бұрын
These are far from the house. Plant tender perennials you're trying to zone push against your house.

Ross, make some wine! Mulberry wine is excellent. It's a great way to preserve your fruit harvest and a fun hobby.

I ended up freezing them for smoothies!

Do you have to graft them? Why u grafting them?
@RossRaddi5 ай бұрын
They're not super easy to root. It's much easier to graft them.

I’ve had several mulberries grow to over 7 feet tall with good green growth yet never any fruits? Do they need a certain nutrient or watering or pruning style to get them to fruit? Thank you!
@RossRaddi5 ай бұрын
Their hormones are out of whack. Try summer pruning them now.

You need a male and a female... Or one nearby for pollination

Depending on where you live (Such as southern Ontario), mulberries may be endangered due to hybridization. In that case, grow whatever the local variety is to not contribute to the hybridization problem. Specifically white mulberries from Asia are a major hybridization problem everywhere due to that one being the variety that's most favored by silk worms and thus often grown everywhere possible for them. Where I live (Calgary), mulberries aren't native at all (way too cold), so even if they do manage to spread, they'll almost certainly die without winter protection. I got a couple Trader mulberries, one died due to neglect, the other suffered major winter damage and is limping along/regrowing this season even though it's supposedly hardy enough for my zone. So I'll likely need to move it to a more sheltered location and cover it in the winter. Still if that's how successful that variety is on it's own, I highly doubt there's any risk of them spreading and causing problems.

I have Girardi in ground and I have yet to eat a single berry from it. Birds have eaten every single one!

Wrap it with a garden row cover.

How many times are your Gerardi fruits for you? I only have a little bit of fruits in the spring, and that's it. Could it be due to TX heat?

My Dwarf Everbearing made mulberries the first year but only after I pruned the branches back by half and stripped off the leaves.
