Hmm, 9 years ago it was my favourite place in Budapest and perhaps even in the world... Now it's a tragedy. The Dobos cake is great but I wouldn't sit down to have it.

£18 for 2 cups of coffee and a piece of quite frankly below average doboz torte - dry and cold( kept in fridge?). Indifferent waiter - dry and cold! Inappropriate loud pop music played. Disappointed - wanted an experience to remember beautiful Budapest by....just left feeling fleeced.☹️

I'm not that old but I remember Gerbeaud with reasonable (although upscale) prices and without that disgusting pop music. Suddenly somewhere around 2012, they decided to pump the tourists even more and to give up on Hungarian visitors. A piece of cake that cost 1000 HUF (approx. 4 € back then, a LOT for an Eastern Block city), suddenly cost 2500, basically overnight. Gerbeaud charged more than Ladurée in Paris... Dobos cake was cancelled from the menu for a while - the ultimate proof of the craziness of the management. It came back but all the other changes stayed. I don't go there anymore when I'm in Budapest. Pity.

The propagandist language of this video is incredible... :-)) The sudden change of music, only young people to be seen, close-ups on children's faces, gentlemen with Macbooks to suggest the "vibrant, urban crowd"... Nowhere to see the old Pest ladies who used to patron the café for decades...
