I had the Bear Grylls knife and it lasted me a decade! It went through many hunting seasons here in Texas. I took down some thin but tall trees with it. I made a lot of bond fires with it in the hill country area, and we just sat there and drank our beer and whiskey. I gave it away to a friend last year because the finish was coming off and the serrated teeth were a bit damage from trying to hack deer bone, he said he'll restore it. I just re-order and got the green one today (to my surprise the original BG was discontinued and selling on Ebay for $200 (hew nah!). Feels lighter and thinner to me but I hope to make many more memories with it, just like I did with the orange BG one. Great Review, btw!

only ting i dont like is the sheath the newer bear grylls ultimate pro sheath had a sliding sharpner instead of a stone and the fire starter isnt upside down

Fire starter is only upside if you carry your knife on a belt like an amateur. It would be very uncomfortable and awkward to pull the knife like that. Try carrying it sideways on your belt in the small of your back, or upside down on your chest rig.

You should try a martinni blade. They feel light, but I strong and sharp despite being not as heavy. They are beautiful and ultimately a awesome knife for everything.

Bear Grylls made sure to always bring a cameraman who brought enough heavy and cumbersome equipment along to document Bear's amazing skills of survival and resourcefulness out in the middle of nowhere.

The three biggest flaws with knife on 1st inspection are: 1) the knife is camo green with a black sheath but has Gerber stamped in large white letters so what's the point of the camo. 2) The sheath is shyte and the blade edge slides and rubs on the plastic inside the sheath, dulling the blade every time you pull it out or put it away. 3) The knife came with a roughly sharpened blade. It wouldn't even cut paper and the rouchness of the edge could easily be felt with your finger. Needs a good sharpening and stropping but not with the crappy supplied sharpener - which is really just a rough sharpener for emergencies.

The handle on this thing is amazing. Feels like extension of the hand. Overall a bargain, highly capable tool.

The handle is very rectangular and hard. Very uncomfortable. Designed more towards being lashed to a stick than for holding comfortable.
