*DISCLAIMER* I mentioned in the video aspen is the only safe type of wood bedding to use with your gerbils. You can also safely use hemp and beech wood chips, but they won't be able to successfully hold up burrows. Hope this clears up any confusion.

I prefer home-made shredded kitchen towels and shredded cardboard. It costs a fraction (one tenth) , it is lighter, and it is truly dust free. However, if one buys it from a shop, this bedding you are showing seems to be a very good one to choose

OMG ! I quickly realized that I did not do my homework! I have had many animal's in my life. I have never owned a gerbil. I raised rats and mice when I was young but quickly realized that a gerbil is so different. I am appalled by the pet store who did not tell me the habitat i purchased was so wrong. I am picking up a 55gallon tank . For my two new babies. I panicked in the first day when I observed them and relized that I put them in a cage with no burrowing possibility. So now I am frantically trying to educate myself and make sure that they are cared for properly. The pet store did not have them in the right conditions. But my intuition realized something was wrong. I want to make sure that their environment is set up correctly. They are 8 weeks old and i don't think that they have ever had the correct environment so it is so important to me to give that to them. What is your opinion on bedding for a burrowing experience that they deserve???

I'm so sorry for your experience with the pet shops, it sadly is a common one :(. So happy you realized and are upgrading them, sounds like you're going all out for them which is so amazing ! For bedding, I advise plain paper bedding ( unscented, low dust), aspen wood shavings, and hay - Timothy, or orchard grass. This combo will be really amazing and strong to support their burrows! Adding in various cardboard pieces to the top and middle and heavy items like bendy bridges on the bottom will also aid in structural support !

Lately I’ve been having a small issue with my gerbils,their noses have red scabs around the nose I’ve left it for 3 days but it hasn’t gotten any better so I started trying to wash off a bit of the scabbing using a cotton pad .Im hoping its just a minor allergy that was caused by the bedding.I have been using Allspan wood shavings,i thought they were aspen but then it turned out that they dont even tell you what type of wood it is.Unfortunately thats all i could find and afford but after I saw this happening to them I started searching on amazon to find paper based bedding and succesfully ordered 2 packets of kaytee clean and cosy im also considering

Today I got a packet of carefresh , hemp and aspen.I changed out their bedding and they seem to enjoy it, I also called a few diferent vets 2 of which didnt know much about them and the third one didnt reply.

Great video. Question is soda pop cardboard safe for gerbils , also I noticed some chew toys from pets tore use hot glue on some loofah paper toys, also paper ribbon can I use to make diy chew toys? Ty so much -Dante and Templeton

Thank you so much ! Yes, that cardboard would be fine for gerbils. Freezer cardboard boxes are the ones to watch out for. :) With loofah toys and other items with glue, you should be mindful to avoid them, or remove the bits with glue before giving it to your gerbils. Colored paper would be fine to shred and give to your gerbils. You could definitely use them to make chew toys.

Mm. To be honest, while you gave an opinion of the aspen chips in the package, I don't recall you giving us your opinion of this product after using it for a while.

I've only used it in two tank cleans, the second time I used it was for the Halloween Theme video, which was more of a chill video rather than me talking and explaining. I'll try to remember to include my opinion on it for the Christmas tank theme! Spoiler, I love it.

Gerbils do have an odour, although in my own opinion they smell much less than a rat, mouse or hamster. Mice are known for being stinky, gerbils are not. Many factors play a role in how smelly they and their enclosure could be, including : the size, if you have a sand bath, the number of gerbils you have, how often you are cleaning, etc. My 1 hamster smells worse than my 2 gerbils. Hope that helped !
