We have been searching for a recipe for the second one you make. I’m half English and half German, I really thought rum balls were part of my English heritage, my wife was searching in all our English recipe books but to no avail, then my brother told me about your video and that it was part of our Northern German heritage! I can’t wait to make these! Klaus

Left mixture too long in fridge so it solidified. Had to beat to soften but it worked - thank goodness. Made a mess forming mixture but got there in the end. Yummy. Thank you for your great recipes and demonstrations. Please don’t stop.

I grew up in Australia but my mum was from Germany, as a kid growing up mum would always make rum balls for all the school fete's and they were always sold out with a line of "mum's" waiting....I never understood why so many people loved mum's rum balls but I'm sure it was to do with all the rum in there lol. Thank you for sharing as my mum passed away last year and cooking recipes that she would make brings me closer to her. My mum was born in Kamp-Lintfort in Germany.

Oh my goodness!!! Thank you...thank you!!! I LOVE Rum Balls!!! One of my favorite things, even as a child. My mother is European and she allowed us to have them for occasional treats...especially during the holidays! They are addicting! 😍 I didn’t have the recipe with the chocolate cake version though. Your recipes are delicious and bring back wonderful memories! The only change I made is I roll them in powdered sugar or cocoa powder. I’m one of the few people that don’t like sprinkles. I’m making some more for our Anniversary on New Years Eve!!🎉 Happy New Year to you and your family! ☃️

Another Great video... Lol, Leftover cake? Ha ha ha ha, like you, no such thing. I do prefer over-proof Bacardi, but I seem to be the only one that notices. Those BIG Rum Balls are a favourite Christmas (& admittedly year round) Treat. I love treats, lol. Those Deutsche chocolate sprinkles mmm...it's all about quality ingredients, makes all the difference. I too use Orange juice or sometimes *extra* frozen orange juice concentrate, though it makes for a totally different flavor. I am still in hospital but thanks to your Chocolate Rumball video, I can now request someone make me the treat :-) . I do so enjoy your videos and recipes, thanks again.

Could you use semi sweet chocolate instead of mixing milk and dark chocolate?
@MyGermanRecipes4 жыл бұрын
I think so but I've never tried it. It's best if the chocolate is not too soft and I think that would be the benefit of the dark chocolate.

No, I make most things myself. I don‘t have a German shop near me but our grocery carries some German items like our favorite chocolate.
@333Socks4 жыл бұрын
I only was asking, because in your Gruenkohl video you mention that you could not get "Mettenden". But you also mention that you live in Housten/Texas. Well I googled German butcher in Texas and it came up with severall German butchers there. If you do get to one of them, a little advise, don't try to speak German as the German they speak is from 1830. So you would not understand a word. LOL

You promised I was going to like Saturday’s recipe. Now I find out it’s rum balls, and I don’t consume alcohol. Maybe I could use a rum extract instead?
@MyGermanRecipes4 жыл бұрын
Exactly, you can use rum extract instead!
@jesusgonzalez844 жыл бұрын
Hi Susan, Rum extract usually contains a small amount of alcohol, (I looked up "McCormick's Imitation Rum Extract" and it has 35% alcohol), so just make sure you use an alcohol-free version. You have reminded me, that because of medication I take, I too must now use the alcohol free versions that are available. Glad you brought it up. Have a good weekend Susan.

Visually it's just like "Brigadeiro" from Brazil but the recipes are completely different.
@klimtkahlo4 жыл бұрын
It would not surprise me Germans would have introduced the recipe to Brazil and then maybe just adapted it to the ingredients they had around them. There is a large German community in Brazil.
@elisre43914 жыл бұрын
@@klimtkahlo yes, i live right at the center of this community.... it's a simple sweet from the 1940s made with just condensed milk, chocolate and butter and it's origin is pretty well known. Anyway... we had the ingredients long before germans and it's not like we didnt have booze, chocolate and sugar at the time that we would need to adapt the recipe. Anyway, the BR recipe is simpler and perfect for a Million ocasions from celebrations to a pick up after a Sad breakup lol
