The example at 4:00, can we put "er" auch, in die satze since Patrik is a thirsd person and a male?

Sure you can! It actually depends on what sentence you’re making. For example : Patrik freut sich, weil/da er die Prüfung bestanden hat. Patrik is happy because HE passed the exam. But in the example in the video, there is no need for ‘er’. Patrik freut sich, weil/da seine Freundin zum Abendessen kommt. Patrick is happy because HIS girlfriend is coming for dinner. Hope this helps! 😊

Thank you - but is there any difference in meaning, or usage, or register, or formality? Why choose one or the other?

There is no major difference in the meaning of these three conjunctions. They all mean because but da is used more if you want to say “since”. Like, Ich bleibe zu Hause, da es regnet. I’m staying home, since it is raining. Apart from that it is the sentence structure that changes. Just how I explained in the video, in cases of weil and da, the conjugated verb goes in the end and with denn the verb stays in the 2nd position. And there is no issue of formality here. So, you can choose any one of them! Hope that helps 😊
