You are right - the female voice might feel alien to most European language speakers. One of the reasons is that Bangla is mainly spoken with the upper part of the vocal cord, whereas most European speakers use the lower part of the vocal cord. It's challenging to create this kind of sound with the lower part of the vocal cord.

Mymensingh is a division and one of the oldest districts of Bangladesh. 'Mymensingh gitika' are one type of poetic folk song sang in that area which are different from other types of folk songs of Bangladesh. This song is an modern adaptation of an old 'gitika'. Hope this little info helps you.
