Today we explored two castles in Fuessen Munich. It was Schloss Neuschwanstein and Schloss Hohenschwangau .It was King Ludwig 2nd and his dads castle. We took a horse carriage up to the castles. It was a stunning view over the German Alps.and the alpsee then we hiked up to the Marienbruecke where we had a fantastic view on both castles.the alpsee was stunning

This ain't baroque. This castle was built at the end of the 19th century. It is a mishmash of styles, mostly Neo-Gothic but also Romanesque and Byzantine.

Hello to you GIV and your Mom❤. I was there 34 years ago almost the exact same time in October 1989. I don’t remember the huge crowds but do remember the walk up the hill. It’s one of the most beautiful places on earth. King Ludwig the “Swan King” and his favorite composer and best friend, Wagner. Thanks for the memories ❤

My dad was in the military so we moved around a lot. We would try to see interesting places around where we lived. However, there was one time when we lived in Virginia in the middle 60’s we were only a couple of hours from Washington DC and never went. I regret that. I remember you saying that your mom hadn’t been to many places. It is great that you have been able to take her places during your visit.

I walked up to the castle via the footpath 62 years ago when I was 11 years old. No hoards of people back then. The path up from the parking area was quite a hike! We stayed in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. It was so beautiful there in southern Germany. The views from the castle were amazing. Our guide told us stories of King Ludwig II, which stirred my imagination to no end. What a great childhood!

Actually Neu Schwanstein (The New Swan Stone) is a relatively modern castle, from the 19th century. But the creator of the castle, the Bavarian King Ludwig II, was inspired in old germany legends and fairy tales. The Ring of the Nibelungen, Siegfried the Dragon Slayer and so on...

We went to the castle on our honeymoon. My new hubby kept waiting for “the next town for cheaper accommodations”. Well, around midnight we stopped at a bar/restaurant and he went in and asked about a room while I stayed in the car. He returned with “I have good news and bad news”. The good news is we have a room but the bad news is it’s in a barn. We stayed in the converted barn. It was actually quite nice. We laugh about that memory every anniversary.
