1965 I lived in Augsburg Germany and visited the castle many times...my mother was with child and laid in the kIngs bed...I told her she should be there and she called me over...stars of silver above the bed...Wow now you have to stay behind a rope...not then. Now the world knows.

Totally worth the trip!!! I LOVED it!!! The relationship between Ludwig and Wagner is quite interesting. The bridge is amazing. Ludwig built Linderhoff.... Herenkimsee... (my spelling is off) Ludwig drown in the end.... mysteriously. I stayed the night at Lisle's Hotel. I saw a ghost at the foot of my bed there.... and I'm an incredible skeptical athiest. Great adventure I'll remeber forever

I walked up to the castle via the footpath 62 years ago when I was 11 years old. No hoards of people back then. The path up from the parking area was quite a hike! We stayed in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. It was so beautiful there in southern Germany. The views from the castle were amazing. Our guide told us stories of King Ludwig II, which stirred my imagination to no end. What a great childhood!

Actually Neu Schwanstein (The New Swan Stone) is a relatively modern castle, from the 19th century. But the creator of the castle, the Bavarian King Ludwig II, was inspired in old germany legends and fairy tales. The Ring of the Nibelungen, Siegfried the Dragon Slayer and so on...

@@julioalbertoherrera1339 The Bavarian King Ludwig II is said to have committed suicide, but new documents point to murder... 132 years ago today, King Ludwig II died mysteriously. Filmmaker Klaus Bichlmeier met two previously unknown descendants of witnesses - and is now certain: "Ludwig was shot!"... only GOD knows the real story ...

My dad was in the military so we moved around a lot. We would try to see interesting places around where we lived. However, there was one time when we lived in Virginia in the middle 60’s we were only a couple of hours from Washington DC and never went. I regret that. I remember you saying that your mom hadn’t been to many places. It is great that you have been able to take her places during your visit.
