I recommend to check out the Blind Auditions from Ayham Fayad & Doni Wirandana. They also got 4 chair turns. Pity they were missing here but there were so many talents this year some unfortunatley had to miss out.

Dear Michael, I totally agree with what you said about I am a (classical trained) Rock, Blues and Jazzsinger myself, but,as you said, Luciano Pavarotti or Placido Domingo, and some other famous opera singers are another league. I've got a lot of opera singers among my dear friends.and am a little spoiled concerning good singing. What I was referring to -and some of the media-consumers here surely don't have a clue of it- is the simple fact that in Berlin an annual international and intercontontinetal (non TV) contest isttaking place: Euro Pop Contest where the youngest participants are 10 years old, the older ones up to 24. Each and everyone who is performing there went thru many national castings before coming to Berlin. The level of these young singers is extremely high because the have already mostly classical educated voices even when singing Pop, Rock, Soul or else. How should ignorants know that? Just blaming me of "no means" being a pro doesn't change the fact that people should extend their horizon and open ears and eyes to really see and listen what's way beyond media hypes. (Btw my fellow musicians all play in the upper league and worked with many of the so called "Big Names" or sold platinum and gold themselves. I at least was at least nominated or won the one or the other US award as a Rock-songwriter. But my goal is not to be rich and famous but to Rock the Gospel, may it be on big stages, may it be among the homeless on the streets. God knows! Stay faaatly blessed!!!

Well, as a professional singer and musician I can only tell you that even the 10 year old kids up to young adults (up to max.24 years) at the annual Euro Pop Contest in Berlin sing way better than most (professional) adult candidates at the Voice of Germany. The difference: There are participants from all continents and it's not hyped by huge sponsors and the TV lobby.

Okay, the commerce argument... By all sympathy for the good performances of pop music here i think you are right at the end. There is a huge difference between the singing of this people and really good singers! Sometimes you find special singers here at the voice, for example Jordan Smith with his chandalier in USA or sharip umharof (?) in Russia with still loving you. In other casting shows Paul Potts became famous with his "nessun dorma" opera. And Paul Potts was a excel singer who deserved it to come in the public. But if you compare his voice with Luciano Pavarotti than you can see that there is still a better league of singers. And for all in Germany we have a great tradition of really good singers because of the history of music here. There were maybe the greatest tenor voice ever (also Pavarotti said) with Fritz wunderlich to singers like Herman Prey or Fischer Diskau. To become a excellent singer you need discipline and for all technique! And this 10 auditions are nice to hear but by far not amazing voices! Tge people who are impressed already should hear maybe Pavarotti or Wunderlich. Maybe than they realize what great singing is! And uf they do it, than they really will get goosebumps and think that this people come direct from heaven. Singing pop is one, but hearing a professionell voice is a other league! And Germany had/has amazing singers!

Well, it depends on the region and the education level. Quite a bunch Of Germans speak almost fluently English.

Yeah and there is a good reason for that. In Germany there are different kinds of school from fifths or seventh year (depends on when you were born) on, for lower education and higher education. A lot of people go the way of higher education, and there is way more attention given to foreign languages. I was in a lower education school until my tenth year und changed back to higher after that, and let me tell you, the difference in english lessons was worlds apart. In tenth class i was singing "oh my darling clementine" every start of the english lesson, in eleventh grade i had to translate classical literature. So back to your shop experience - jobs in retail are traditionally more often taken by people with lower education, where you simply learn less english. Same goes for the age gap - today you have to have a certain level of english in higher paid jobs, which was not the case 30 years before. So, ask younger people with business attire, you should have no problems then...
