Nicole is also my favorite, and she told in an intereview that the most exciting moment for her was the 12 points from Israel (we all know the history about the two countries, and she almost cried when they gave her 12 points to a peace song🥰)

Katja Ebstein is the most succesful German competitor.She competed 3 times.She came third in 1970 and 1971.Then she came second in 1980.She is the only performer to have made the top three on three occasions.

She's really a Eurovision Queen, love her
@kilsestoffel36903 жыл бұрын
My mom was once in a tv show with her and she told me, Katja Ebstein didn't need a microphone, her voice was strong enough to get to the last row of the audience
Fun fact 1968: Wencke Myhre ended "only" on the 6th place, because the judges from her origin country Norway were upset because of Wenckes choice to sing for West-Germany and so they denied her their points.

Germany has officially participated in every Eurovision Song Contest since its beginning in 1956, except in 1996 when its entry did not qualify past the audio-only pre‐selection round, and consequently was not seen in the broadcast final and does not count as one of Germany's 63 appearances. And also after this non-qualification the big five rule was created. No other country has been represented as many times.Germany has a total of 11 top three placements, also finishing second with Lena Valaitis (1981) and twice with the group Wind (1985 and 1987), and finishing third with Mary Roos (1972), Mekado (1994) and Surpriz (1999). Germany has finished last on seven occasions, receiving nul points in 1964, 1965 and 2015.

Lena Valaitis with Johnny Blue is the best german entry to this day, in my opinion. Beautiful song. Her voice was superb and the message is still relevant after 40 years. Should have won in 1981.
Look up Stefan Raab. He was involved in 1998 (Guildo Horn), 2004 (Max Mutzke) , 2010 (Lena) , 2011 (Lena) and sang in 2000 himself and in the opening Show of 2011. In 1998 he was officially listed as Alf Igel to mock up Ralph Siegel who wrote songs like Ginges Kahn.

My favourite is the first entry: Im Wartesaal Zum Großen Glück. It means 'In the waiting room for great luck' and it has a deep meaning when you consider the fact the singer was a holocaust survivor.

I think Germany had absolutely great songs of different genres, but also a lot of crap - except in the 90s and in the last years. So funny to see that you liked some songs and performances, too!

The song "Zwei kleine Italiener" (two little Italians) refered to the desire of the Italian immigrant workers to there Italian home.

In the past especially in 80s Germany’s many song composed by the same duo Ralph Siegel and Bernd Meinunger.They made 24 songs for Eurovision and 12 of them for Germany.They placed 8 times in top 10 out of their 12 participation for Germany.First song that got victory made by them too.In 1980,81 and 87 they came second.In 1994 and 99 they came third.Dschinghis Khan also composed by them.

If you look closer at the early years, you will notice, that almost every performer and of course the authors are all people with solid careers. Some of them still in business today, some with international careers. For example the contestant of the first year, Freddy Quinn. He had a solid career for many decades as a singer and actor. If you look him up, you'll find him doing artistic stuff like walking the rope. Or those two women, the Kessler Twins, they also had a lifelong career with appearances on international TV like the Perry Como Show. The "little girl" from 62, Conny Froboess. She's still a well known actress and still working. This year she was awarded the "Deutscher Schauspielpreis" for her lifetime achievements. The composer of her song, Christian Bruhn, who also wrote "Wunder gibts es immer wieder" for his wife Katja Ebstein, wrote the music for many "Evergreens" and a lot of scores for film and TV. He also composed the iconic jingle for Milka-chocolate. And worth mentioning is, that he's a very kind man always willing to help young composers to get startet. When I started composing and orchestrating scores, I asked him, if there are printed scores of some of his works, but instead of trying to sell me something, he send me copies of his handwritten scores with personal remarks. And that's, I think, a key point why the older entries are still known and much more remembered, than what was produced over the last years. The performers where already established, professional artists - more or less - and also the composers were. Over the years I met some of them and they all were very kind and lovely persons without any prima donna behaviour. Something you can't say from some of the **** we send the last years. A very good example is Mary Roos. Apart from singing, she and German comedian Wolfgang Trepper had a very successful comedy show over the last years named "Nutten, Koks und frische Erdbeeren" (Prostitutes, Cocaine and Fresh Strawberries) where they made fun of "German Schlager" and it's protagonist. It was another generation of artists. One that`s missed in our days. They knew that success and career need hard work, respecting your audience and not taking yourself too serious.
Cascada, Roman, Lena, Michael, Ben were iconic!!! I think Ben is my favorite

Funfact for you guys and especially for Joy, as he loves "Black Smoke" so much: If everything had gone normally Ann Sophie wouldn't have been the entry for Germany that year. In the national selection it was "Andreas Kümmert" who had won the vote and should have been sent to Vienna, but on the live stage while everyone was watching and the host asked him to perform his winning song again he refused and said that Ann Sophie would be more qualified and could handle such a big stage better than him. You can watch this moment here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/maOXoYWQpLNggsU there are subtitles and you should watch everyones faces and reactions. =D It's hillarious and shocking all at once. It must have been hell for the host and the stage direction behind the scenes. xD

thx for this clip, and i am glad you liked so much songs. i agree with you, Lena and Satellite was not the best song to win, her second part 2011, taken by a stranger was much better, but not ESC confrom i guess. why Germany did not win more times.... ?!? the language was / is definitely a problem. German is difficult! so if you have time and interest, try to translate some songs. i.e. hoffman & Hoffman Rücksichtconsideration. They "play" with the language, and if you try to translate the lyrics "lose" my top 5 5. taken by a stranger 2011 Lena 4. cant wait until tonight 2004 Max Mutzke 3. Wunder gibt es immer wieder 1970 Katja Ebstein 2. Rücksicht 1983 Hoffman& Hoffman 1. EIn Lied kann eine Brücke sein 1975 Joy Fleming and also violent thing, but there was no ESC 2020...

How do you dare say France was rubbish and so low? They had so many great songs, they just weren't in the upbeat style and party dansy genre like Germany. Because these are slow and melodic balad doesn't mean they are bad, they have the quality, they are just what you don't listen to.
@ToyAndGoy4 жыл бұрын
We are watching for 20 minutes plus minus a recap of all songs. It’s an individual feeling and it was really hard to go through France while Germany was an absolute fun. It’s after all an individual feelings and if you think we were harsh that wasn’t our intention.

The quality of songs that France has sent over the year is indeed much lower than Germany's.
@jean-baptistechopin17994 жыл бұрын
@@sav0001 @Srdjan Savic There is a difference between the level of quality and if the songs are accurate to your tastes. The songs France has sent over the years had sometimes a quality much higher than Germany, they aren't just the catchy upbeat type of songs. Something that doesn't belong to your tastes does not mean it's bad.

My personal favourites are (in no particular order) Ein bisschen Frieden, Dschingis Kahn and No No Never (honestly, it deserved a way better placement). But honestly, I like most of the German entries, there are only a handful I think are somewhat boring and really few I dislike. I think the only one I really feel emberassed by is the No Angles one...and that is mostly because the performance was just terrible.

2008 💖 You, guys, where are you come from ? Bosnia ? Because I try to learn English with this kind of videos. 😂OK, listen to German songs in eurovision songs contest. And " thank you for this amazing show!" 😘 Before 1978,france,great Britain, Danemark, Israël etc... Was great. But since the " death" of USSR, too much countries, this contest became like a political game. In 80's and 90's could you also ear ridiculous or funny songs, not serious. I always disagree with jury's votes and with yours! 😂 I hate cascada.
