I don't think that "unskilled workers" is what germany is searching for. The german term "Fachkräftemangel" might give you a hint. It's a term that describes that qualified, educated specialists are lacking, not the uneducated help. Jobs like plumber, baker, mechatronics, all jobs related to building houses, streets and infrastructure, doctors, nurses, caretakers and so on. All those jobs aquire knowledge and education, no way those who working in these fields are unskilled. And what most of them have in common, is that you have to be able to communicate in german. Imagine a plumber comming to your house and don't speak your language. How should he be able to solve the problem the way you want? Or a brickie that don't get his bosses order and messes up. And so on. So, it might be true that chances for getting a job in germany are rising, but it won't come for nothing. You need skills and language. Otherwise you will end up in wellfare programs and soon after you will loose your visa. Chances for seeking asylum if you are from the US are slim, so don't count on that.

In the company and also private I already had the problem (EU citizens with another nativ language).If only basic language knowledge is available, misunderstandings are much too easy. Because it's not just about the words used, but also about the way you use the words in the sentence. Try to reassure a craftsman who thinks you want to insult him :) Even if my English skills are sufficient to lead a simple conversation, I would not be able to advise a client fully and understandably in this language in my job.

On December 19th the cabinet agreed on a *draft*. This draft still has to go through both legislative chambers (Bundestag/Bundesrat) and would become effective in 2020 if accepted there. So things are by no means final.

@Randy Welsh there is no official language in the U.S. Constitution. In Germany, everything is in German as it's the official language. Also, if one wants to work in a company other than telecommunications, it would behoove them to learn German if they wish to increase their possibilities for upward mobility.

@Randy Welsh how do facts from the 18th - early 20th century make America the best and/or better at the moment. You're talking through a time period when current day Germany was once part of the Holy Roman Empire, up to the World Wars when they had König Wilhelm and later Der Führer. Stop living in the past, society has evolved. Living standards among all demographics in industrialized nations are better EXCEPT the U.S. I'll never move back to that shithole of a country.

It is more about the booming economy than about the low birth rate... in my area companies apply for workers… they send you letters, mails and also some send people to the doors to talk to people to persuade them to start to work there... it isn't easy having a company here, cause as the owner you must offer a lot to the workers to get and keep them … and if another company offers 20% more, lots of workers go there... newspapers are full of companies looking for especially skilled and well educated workers like mechanics, electricians etc

I have been living in Germany since 2014, I came for my MSc and I must say in as much as some of the things she said maybe true, one also have look deep before one take a leap! It’s not always easy and same as it’s being said. Moreover, the video sound more like Germ govt propaganda just to lure people to Germany, for economic reasons. Another thing that one have to consider is intercultural relationship. What have seen is that Germans don’t like foreigners and Germany is still very much the epicenter of white-supremacist. Am a black dude from Africa am talking from experience.

Germany has by far too many immigrants at the moment. As somebody from abroad it might look like an amazing country to move to but as a german i can only tell you that it is totally the opposite. The country has drastically changed especially in the last 5-10 years. In some cities you will hardly find anyone on the streets speaking german anymore - especially in the western parts of the country. As a native it's really frustrating to see your home changing that fast while other countries have a much better and regulated immigration policy. Another aspect is that most immigrants in Germany especially those from countries in Eastern Europe, are extremely exploited. People being hired from countries like Poland or Hungary think they work for good wages but the reality is that this policy contributes to even lower wages in general. If i was going to move to another european country for a better life i would go to Switzerland, Netherlands or Scandinavia. The fact that people still choose Germany is just unbelievable.

I once knew a German guy in T.O who was renting in my house and he said he didn't like it (we discussed this topic in length). Maybe some Germans can answer this - but honestly. Anyways, since 2017 I've been living in Poland. First Warsaw and now Wrocław (I am a dual citizen so this helps me a lot). So far, really glad I made the move. Won't be missing the harsh Canadian winters and 2 hour traffic jams on the QEW.

There are 3.3 million Canadians of German ethnicity. How's the "taking over" Canada going? Anyways, aren't you technically an immigrant yourself? I know "dual citizen" blah blah. Are you trying to "take over" Poland? As a German, I have to tell you, that's a really bad idea!

It very much depends but for me: I like immigrantion if following conditions are met: 1. They should be willing to assimilate 2. They respect all German laws and show a willingness to speak German 3. They have received an education worth for Germany. Now, I do not like immigration from poor African and Muslim countries because for the past decades, we have imported a lot of problems from those countries. Often, these people have no real employment prospectus in Germany, they lack necessary skills. Their way of life is completely different, it can lead to a lot of problems. We have imported religious extremism here. Immigrants from those countries are also less likely to be deported if anything goes wrong.

Things are rapidly changing here in Germany. There's no mandatory German language requirement, especially for skilled workers who are looking for a job in the STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) fields. A vast majority of the highly-paid jobs in the STEM fields do not ask for German language skills. I know this because I have first-hand experience. I am working for a big international company in Germany, and everything at work is in English. My Chef, my Mitarbeitern (many of whom are native Germans), everyone speaks English at the workplace. Of late, more and more international companies, as well as start-ups (especially those that specialize in the STEM fields), are preferring an English-based work environment. Therefore, the number of highly-paid jobs that do not require the German language is on the rise. Such skilled-workers (especially in the STEM fields) only need very basic German language skills (I'd say A2 or B1) to get by in their daily life outside work. Like it or not, this is the truth.

I don't know why this has offended people. I simply was pointing out that the timing just seems too coincidental to believe that they didn't consider brexit when making this decision. Obviously it benefits the rest of the world too, I didn't imply that brexit is the only reason. In fact, I specifically said "anything" and "wonder" to show that if it was it was only a small contributing factor. But I imagine it was thought about when they were passing the law. Since brexit will take out 4 countries from the EU it would mean 4 less countries Germany could gain new workers from.
@schnappi1189
@schnappi1189 5 жыл бұрын
I don’t think it’s really that much about Brexit. These jobs needed are often not taken by people from the UK either. But there are a lot of people from the UK getting the German citizenship because of Brexit. Because as long as the UK is still part of the EU people can have both passports. If you are applying for german citizenship after Brexit you would have to decide whether you want to have the German citizenship or the British
@hkw242
@hkw242 5 жыл бұрын
@@EternallyEmma I don't think that Brexit has anything to do with it. This topic is discussed for decades in germany, way before anybody could imagine Brexit. What's new about this isn't the regulation of migration, new is that it bundles a lot of former regulations and laws. And it will take a process of about half a year or more before this become an actual law and most likely on the way a lot of details will be changed. Right now, skilled workers from the british isles are very few, compared to other countries. And however Brexit turns out, germany will stay in good terms with the UK. Citizens from the UK then just will be treated like non EU citizens. If they are skilled, they are wellcome. If not, they most likely won't get a working visa. Germany doesn't care where people come from to do work that needs to be done, doesn't matter if EU or not. If EU they just have a much easier acces to germany.

It is better to ask why Germany has a low birth rate?! because A) costs are too much B) Is a big topic after 2ww that lead to a generationgap of 30 years. C) It is because of lost Values in reference of how a Family and Partnership is working and the general Sexualisation they do not see happening ( but you see it happening, with "free offers" round the Corner, more short then short Clothes, lost Shame, no familiar education, resulting give-up Mentality, sexual Confusions and Perversions, Patchwork, Single Mothers and Fathers, and old People sourced out where they can die in old Peoples houses alone. Otherways you would see happy families, old people included, Women/Mothers in their feminin power and love with selfvalue learned from their Fathers and Mothers, and Men in their maskuline Manpower and a concious taking of the rolemodel doing all for Family and living for responcability for the Family. "But" Ego got too much wrong directed and respect for the Creation off the Allmighty is lost under the Materialism and Capitalism, that costing Sozialism high Family Values and with it it costs educated and lovely Families who grow their kids with healthy Values. That is how easy it is. It is not that the German would not want to have family. It is the complete Dynamic and Disguidance of the society by many aspects.
