I picked up the group and we visited Schweinfurt, Wartburg, and Erfurt. We had a wonderful group and a blast of a time together.

...I would have loved to take my late wife to Germany and show her all the places - from Illesheim and the surrounding areas - Nurnberg/Rothenburg/Wurzburg but neither of us was able to travel overseas, much less long distances here in Florida...I've got my memories of things that most of my contemporaries never saw, to keep me happy at the age of 73

They put the wheels up because of the Krämerbrückenfest/ Merchants' Bridge Festival. This years installation was called 'Räderwerk'. It has to do with the history of the Krämer bridge being part of the road Via Regia ( ran through the center of the Holy Roman Empire) The wheel is also the coat of arms for Erfurt. Roads, wheels and bridges move and connect people that was the idea behind the art project for 2023.

Love the walk through in Schweinfurt, Wartburg, and Erfurt. I have never heard of these places before, thank you for sharing. I love how in Europe the cities are more walkable.

@@MagnificentGermanywithDarion ...my friend...I'd LOVE TO - but my traveling days are long over - I couldn't walk those hilly streets the way I did 50 years ago...I'm lucky to walk around on flat ground here in FL...I'd run around Nurnberg on weekends and think nothing of it - drive to Berchestgaden in my '63 VW , hang out at the Gen.Walker Hotel and dive to Garmisch with mu friends...later in 1989 I visited Berlin where my late brother, Tim, was living with his German GF and walk the city at night, drinking Asbach & Coke and eating Doner Kebab...but those days are sadly over...I enjoy watching you guys enjoying yourselves...wish I'd stayed behind in July 1974...

1:38 So you visited the capital of my homestate. 🙂 Erfurt have one of the biggest intact Altstadt (old town) in Germany, if it's not the biggest. Erfurt ist the town of churches, so many churches there. And the Wartburg, the most important castle in Germany (not Neuschwanstein 😁). Thuringia is very underrated, not many Americans visit it. 🙂
