Even though they came in third place, I think the 2010 German team outperformed the 2014 German team. The 2014 German team was an authentic championship team in the sense the developed into a better team over the course of the tournament, but the 2010 team was at the top of the class from the very start.

I just noticed after rewatching: At 2:23 after the ref showed the red card and the reaction from Cahill came in he looked up at the red card for a brief moment. Sure he can... Ronaldinho was once shown a red card and when the referee realised his mistake (he wanted to show yellow but pulled out the wrong card), he corrected himself. And imo yellow would have been the right decision here.

@Jonathanizer8 жыл бұрын
+ VinzRex + Jake Hunter I am also an amateur ref (and a former player) and as a fellow ref i dont want to criticize your refereeing skills, but for the sake of the health of the players that depend on your good judgement i would with all due respect ask you to reconsider you evaluations. Tackles like these are completely useless to the game, Tim Cahill knew soon enough he would not get to the ball, he could have cancelled the tackle easily, but he didn't care or he wanted to send a message (at the low expense of what he probably assumed would be a yellow card). Or he was just frustrated facing an impending loss. However. It's tackles like this one that often enough make for career ending or career altering injuries. Happens every day. Letting people off with a yellow card for these kind of plays is imho wreckless. It's better for all players and doesn't make for a less aestetic show if tackles from behind are handled as strictly as the ref did here. I'd rather have a few more players suspended and on the bench for a game due to a red card, than have more players injured, in pain and unable to play for months, just because some refs decide that the price of perpetrating injury-risking fouls is so low for the attacker. And btw thats not just my opinion, its the Fifas referees committees assessment as well, the red card was precisely what the Fifa rule book calls for if a player makes a tackle from behind and only hits the opponent, and this rule was especially stressed to all team before the WC 2010, Tim Cahill knew about that or should have known it. Stricter enforcement of this rule shifts a little bit of the risk of the players action (in this case a tackle from behind) onto himself, instead of his opponent (who gets tackled). It shouldn't be a players responsibility to not get injured by his opponent, it should also be the responsibility of said opponent and the referees as well.
