Gerry Anderson’s 2005 CGI series New Captain Scarlet is getting an international release via Amazon. The high definition episodes will launch on the 29th September 2017 - the 50th Anniversary of its predecessor - the classic 1967 series Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons.
To celebrate the release, a free episode ('Rat Trap') will be available on the Gerry Anderson KZbin Channel, and Gerry Anderson Facebook page until the 31st October, so fans can experience Gerry's reimagining in high definition, free of charge.
Gerry Anderson’s classic cult 1960s TV series was reimagined by Gerry Anderson and his production company Anderson Entertainment in 2005. The retro-metabolised version of the iconic children’s show was called ‘Gerry Anderson’s New Captain Scarlet‘ and it used motion-capture CGI Hypermarionation instead of the traditional Anderson puppets, bringing the show firmly into the 21st century.
Series 1 (the first 13 episodes) are being released globally on Amazon, with series 2 coming out later in the year. New Captain Scarlet is also now available on Blu-ray in the UK for the first time thanks to Network Distributing and is available from the Gerry Anderson store at gerryanderson.co.uk.
Included on the Blu-ray set are episode-specific audio commentaries with voice artists David Lane and Wayne Forester, and the late Gerry Anderson himself. New Captain Scarlet was the last TV project that Gerry Anderson oversaw before his sad passing in 2012. At 76 during the making of Captain Scarlet, his enthusiasm to entertain, inspire and excite audiences continues to this day.
Series synopsis:
In the year 2068, peace on Earth is maintained by the Spectrum Organization, with colour coded agents led by Colonel White and the Angels, a crack team of female fighter pilots. After an altercation and an unprovoked attack on the Mysterons on Mars, the Earth is plunged into conflict, with only Spectrum standing in the defence of Earth.
The Mysterons become sworn enemies of Earth, cunning opponents able to recreate exact likenesses of objects or people. But first they must destroy…
Two Spectrum agents lead the fight: Captain Black, who is corrupted by the extraterrestrial menace. And one man fate has made indestructible. His name, Captain Scarlet.

Only 3 nitpicking observations to an otherwise good story. 1, Mars is geologically dead, no volcanism, no lava. 2, the R.A.T. is supposed to be capable of withstanding extremely hostile environments, their weapons are useless, yet an explosive charge to the head takes it out. 3, Scarlet states they can crawl inside a live Volcano and collect rock samples, yet dropping it into a lava lake destroys it. But suspension of disbelief is key to enjoying a good tale. So I make these comments as observations and not complaints. Finally, Thank you for uploading this show. It's very faithful to the original while adding a new element to the mythos.

@@thefurrybastard1964 I'm guessing the R.A.T's head is the achilles heel and I think it's designed to withstand the high temperature of inside volcanoes while it digs rock samples on the inside wall of the crater but not to the fact that it's lava proof.

I was a kid when this show came out and grew up with it in the early 2000s, the CGI was fairly primitive at the time but the writing and design was ahead of its time. I would love to see a new CGI or even live action version of this at some point!

Something this show did that the original couldn't was help me believe the Spectrums Captains are very highly trained operatives, the way they move and react (like scarlet when he hears the mysteron say his name) all adds to it!

Great show and the CGI was managed by Ron Thornton who has sadly passed, a generous man and a class act. I remember posting a link to the series on my Facebook page and how it was a great show. He thanked me for the plug. Great stuff.

Sometimes you tend to find that remakes of shows that you liked when you were younger aren't exactly "up to snuff" with your evolved expectations, but I genuinely think that this iteration of Captain Scarlet can easily go toe-to-toe with its older counterpart! Alright, the CGI isn't exactly top-range here but it's got its own clear vision that it wanted to explore and was adapted very nicely for a more up-to-date and modernized setting, and it greatly expanded on individual characters that didn't have much more to say than a single line in a handful of episodes. I was very disappointed as to how it was treated when it first aired and I've since come to really enjoy this interesting new spin on the old format! Thanks for the good memories!

Absolutely brilliant loved it when I was a kid growing up in the 70s still love it to this day I met the great man once myself at a model exhibition of Thunderbirds loved all his work and the special effects team that he was able to gather together they must have been a bunch of great guys and and woman where head of that time I am now in my 50s and I still love stuff like this so does my children long may it continue.

Fabulous! I didn't like the original shows at all but these are top notch, I just wish they were longer and there were more of them. Can't get over the quality of the animation especially considering the time in which they were made. Gerry's perfectionist attitude and attention to detail was what made his shows stand out.

The CGI/Motion Capture is fantastic for the time this was released. There is a bit of difficulty with hands, and mouth/teeth, but still ground breaking. If the team was to do a series today, and use updated tech, like in the new Planet of the Apes films, it would be FAB. Spectrum is Green !!

I think this was very accurate description of Mars. one example to detail, destiny puts on the helmet when the RAT breaks through the ceiling, she avoids the near vacuum and extreme temperature.

Parents complained about the shows dark tones and it got pulled off the airwaves. ITV always roles over when they get one complaint.

During the original production, the team (especially Gerry Anderson) always wanted to recut the opening titles once they had more footage from more episodes. The original opening titles were only cut from the opening two-parter. Due to time and budgetary constraints, the new titles were never cut, until now! With input from the original production team, and taking into account Gerry's wishes for a faster-paced opening showing off a variety of material from across the series, we put these new titles together.

Correct. Sadly all of the original hard drives were destroyed - without Anderson Entertainment's knowledge or permission. Thankfully we recovered a back up of the full series in HD. It was a close call though!

Scarlet's original voice was based on American actor Cary Grant. Destiny was going to be French in this version, but due to political tensions at the time, she became a naturalized British citizen.

Andrew C - Cary Grant may have been an American actor but he was born in Bristol, UK thus giving him that quirky cross accent of sort of American and mostly British sounding. Captain Scarlet (according to Gerry anderson) was a British character... It seems to me that most remakes get "Americanised" for some reason. :)

The CG here is pretty poor and very fake movements. One only has to look at Final Fantasy made 4 years earlier for comparison. I saw this back in 2005, then said nah. Prefer the puppets.

Yeah probably best consumed after Insight lands, the dumbest part was firing at the titanium digger contraption,in fact the pulse rifles timing should be enough to fracture such mysterion technology which is the point with kids breaking toys to reflect the very violent world they might inhabit. Harmony has not Scarlet hair,liked Destinys script too when searching for a male opinion considering the Geshwader Squadron whatever was like pregnancy. There obviously not doing Mars CAPs but probably could do.Maybe the new spectrum S has not omega partclesand boundary attraction like gravity I suppose and always relative to young science based imaging .

The original Captain Scarlet from the 1960's was a thousand times better than this,I watched this out of curiosity and managed all of four minutes,it was that bad.

Love the show, but......I may be an old arse hole. I just feel that they should have kept the original theme tune. And why does Paul Metcalf have an American accent ? Is he not s'posed to be from Winchester ?
