A tragically beautiful song about life. A great talent was Gerry Rafferty. Poor ol gerry had his demons. But there was never a doubt of his talent. Never really got the break he should have got. The record companies didn’t help him much. Sadly he did nt have much when he passed away.

The musical genius that was Gerry Rafferty. Such a wonderful smooth velvet voice. Known mainly for Baker Street, he is so so so much more than that. Easy to Talk, Don't Speak of my Heart, Winters Come, Shipyard Town, welcome to Hollywood, City to City. Night Owl, The Royal mile and so many more.....if you enjoyed this one, you'll love the ones I've listed & more. Night Owl is one you should react to. Enjoy..!

My wife & I bought city to city because of baker street, not realising at the time, the album had even better songs on it, classic Rafferty. We miss you man .

The harnonies are so good. I believe that it's because they are his brothe and sisters and the genetiv soind is there- beautiful. BTW it wsa his brother who , in Stealers Wheel, pointed out harmonies. Nevertheles it's beautiful and Gery was a loveley man and serious musician. These people sang this at his funeral. They were a big Irish Catholic family. This is them.

Us Scots have written some of the most beautiful melancholic songs ever. Loch Lomond, Auld Lang Syne, Caledonia, Wild Mountain Thyme and Mark Knophlers Piper To The End are just some examples. I think it must be something in our DNA that makes this happen, or possibly even our sad history. i forgot also Mark Knophlers - Brothers In Arms.

It sounds a lot like church music to me. One of those lullaby-like worship songs, or a part that the choir would sing when the peope are going forward to receive communion. Perhaps that was deliberate, to add to a sense of comforting.
