Gerry, what an absolute pleasure your videos are! Especially when you feature Donegal, my "special place" What a difference a day can make, fierce conditions on the morning of the second day. Your mention of the local farmer was well done and rightly respectful. Thank you for starting off 2022 so nicely. Your channel and it's contents are a special treat. Long may you wander. Wishing you health and happiness

Richard, you are way too kind😊 Donegal is my special place too I think - a place I have been going from a young age. Though Mayo does run it a close second😊 The farmer was firm and respectful with me as well as being gracious in allowing onward passage. Thank you for watching and your generous comments. Wishing you all the best for 2022.

@gerrymcveigh2 жыл бұрын
Donegal is also pretty cool for caves😊 That beach with the caves is one of the most famous in Ireland and attracts loads of visitors in the summer, which is why the farmer closed off his land which provided really easy access. Now it is a much more difficult trek for anyone wanting to t get there.

No shortage of socks now Gerry. That Santa is some boy🎅🏻. A big change in the weather overnight 💨. I loved the footage of the wind ripping across the lough. Also impressed with your culinary change. Chicken curry from a bag, very nice. I must give Melmore Head a wee visit soon. Thanks for sharing Gerry.
@gerrymcveigh2 жыл бұрын
You can never have enough good quality socks😊 The wind was brutal and I literally could not stand in it at any height - it did look pretty cool though across the lough👍 The curry in a bag was bought on impulse as I have been eating noodles and tuna steady for years when wild camping and it was decent enough, certainly tastier. You shouldn't be that far from Melmore Head I would think - just don't cross those fields around Melmore Lough or you might get an escort like I did😊

Another great video yet again, and those beaches are just spectacular!!! Wow, what incredible wind to roll in like that. It all ended well though, and thanks to the landowner. Murder Hole beach has been on my bucket list for a long long time now! Beautiful!
@gerrymcveigh2 жыл бұрын
Cheers Donal, Melmore Head is really cool with beach after beach and some fantastic little hills that look way bigger than they are and have fantastic views over Donegal. The Murder Hole is certainly a highlight. The farmer was very gracious in allowing me to cross his land as I am sure he has had plenty of issues since access across his land (the easiest way to the Murder Hole) was ended. It is much better to access it along the rugged coastline anyways if you are going.

Wonderful part of the world Gerry. We loved our explorations on the Inishowen peninsula. We would love to return. There are chough birds around on that coastline. ( black crow family birds with a red beak and red feet ) We had a super day here too. Wow it's well those high winds didn't arrive a bit earlier when you were asleep! Yes I expect walkers/day trippers can be a real pain for local farmers who are concerned about what they might leave behind for their livestock to get hurt on. Not nice weather at the end Gerry!
@gerrymcveigh2 жыл бұрын
Tom, those headlands in north Donegal are just magical places to explore - I hope you get that opportunity again👍 I have seen choughs on Great Blanket Island in Kerry and thought they looked amazing. I did feel a complete idiot when challenged by the farmer and would have returned back the way I came if I had too, though he was very gracious in allowing me to continue👍
@RamblingOn2 жыл бұрын
That wind was something else. You did right by sticking to the lower ground and fair play to the farmer for helping you out. I can understand why he may have not been so happy to see you on his land but you had a genuine reason. I may get myself the book you used, they are some really nice routes you are exploring. The meal looked good but I couldn't justify the money 😄 All the best Gerry and again happy new year 👍
@gerrymcveigh2 жыл бұрын
It is a cool book and lead me to do this walk (in full) a few years ago, otherwise wouldn't have known it was possible to pretty much go around the whole headland. It has some other cool walks all the way down the west coast of Ireland. I did feel a right dick when the farmer came over as I was walking in plain sight across his land, though all thanks to him for letting me go on (I would have turned back if he had said no). Ha😊 the meal was an impulse buy and I splashed out nearly £10 on 2 of them (so one still to go)😊. All the best for 2022👍

Good to see you treating yourself for your wild camping Christmas dinner Gerry - you’re definitely worth it!! 😎 You did well on the Crimbo pressies too, nicely set up for 2022! Really enjoyed that Gerry, thanks for sharing your trip with us. It looks like an amazing area with all those secluded beaches and not a person to be seen, that's another place on my list to visit now!! I tried that curry a few years back but I found it difficult to get the water measurement right, I ended up with what you would call soup, it did have a nice flavour though :-) That wind on the second day was a bit mad, though it made for some nice footage, loved the movement of the long grass and the spray getting whipped up of the lough. The sound of the rain on the tent always gives me a sense of relaxation too, even listening to it on KZbin! Thanks again Gerry and looking forward to more of your adventures this year, Gary.

Mark, those headlands in northern Donegal are just brilliant for hills and coastal walking. I was looking for gas in Go Outdoors (got the last one) and saw them and splashed out on the Chicken Curry and Vegetable Hotpot (still to be eaten).It definitely had more taste and flavour than my plain noodles and tuna and was a lot less effort - just add boiling water, stir and leave - and was pretty filling. My favourite part of Donegal. From Lough Salt down to the tip you have all you can ask for in terms of habitat, history and scenery. Standard Issue that the one time you need to drop down off the hills it's into THAT FIELD! 😂 any other of the 9 million fields in Donegal and you would have been fine, though, yep, absolutely sympathise with that particular issue, I wouldn't want the instaGram masses tramping over my livestock either. Especially when the beach is so dangerous, the rip currrent outta it must be massive. !No Noodles! Mac n Cheese, just how I like it is one of my highlights when away. I keep thinking those camping meals might be better, then catch myself on 😂 Congratulations on the sock hoard, my Bridgedale collection is a source of pride (and toasty toes) I wish they made long-johns and thermal tops too. Thanks again for another epic vid 🤙 (favourite shot: the windy lough from water level, was awesome)
@gerrymcveigh2 жыл бұрын
Cheers David, it was a lovely wee trip, despite all that didn't go according to my meticulous plan😊 I have no doubt that field has seen some tramping over it - I can remember casually strolling across it a few years back when there was no issue, though that has all changed! I have bought 2 of the meals so have one still to go, though there is something simple and reassuring about my noodles😊 My walking socks are also a source of some pride and they are all I wear day in day out. The wind was perhaps the strongest I have ever encountered, especially at pretty much sea level. All the best for 2022😊
