Is it knitting or not. That’s like saying is photography still photography since it’s all digital now and not film. It is still Photography. The love of yarns the process of gauging and design … the nature of the craft…it is a new “tool” but it is still knitting, knitted work. Thank you for your lovely video!❤. Your passion is contagious!!

Hi Tracey, (waves from DownUnder 👋🏼👋🏼) Thanks for putting together your Gertie clips. I will likely never own a CSM but am totally fascinated by them. Am looking forward to seeing more. 🤓💕 Deanne

It creates the same stitch that hand-knitting with needles do. It's knitting. It would be like saying: Using a spinning wheel isn't spinning. You MUST use only a drop spindle! Like weaving whilst using a flying shuttle and multiple boxes, instead of hand-manipulating the threads to create a shed. Still weaving, that. Never stop crafting!

Thanks for doing this series! I've been interested in purchasing a CSM and hearing your experiences really helps.

Thank you for your video. Looking forward to seeing more. I have a Legare that has not been used in over ten years. I finally was able to attend a crank in and learn more. The learning curve is steep but I’m up for the challenge😊

One thing I like about a sock machine is, you get finished faster. By hand, I am looking at a week to a month if I put the work down. A machine? A few hours and you are done.

Its really nice to see knitting podcasters start to warm up to knitting machines. well..... at least sock machines. I've still had people be a bit rude about me using a flat bed. Even though I barely know how to hand knit and the thing I like to do the most hand manipulation of the stitches to create cables and such.
@mhdesert16 жыл бұрын
Hello, AJ Boff, could you explain why people were rude about you using a flat bed machine ? I dreamed I could have a sock machine, but here in France they almost disapeared, and to buy one is so expensive. So I bought inexpensive old flat beds and now I'm learning alone how to use a flat machine to knit socks, it's not so easy that it seems to be, in fact !
@HJKelley476 жыл бұрын
Marie-Helene: I am also a machine knitter, using one of my flat bed knitting machines. We machine knitters hear that same argument - "it is not knitting." I've come to understand that those who make that argument do not recognize the many choices involved in the machine knitting process, or understand special hand manipulated stitches that may be required. We humans have the propensity of thinking , "if you don't do it like I do it,. than what you do is wrong." I do not own a sock machine, however, I am able to make dress socks on my standard flat bed knitting machine (Studio 560) with its ribber. Know that as you practice, it does get easier; for practice makes perfect. I am currently machine knitting Christmas stockings for children, in preparation for this Christmas season. It takes me a little less than 1 1/2 hrs. to make a large Christmas stocking from the initial cast on until the final finishing. Stitch used: Brick stitch, which gives the top portion of the stocking the look of a chimney. Just got a call today placing an order for 100 of them. Length - 17"'/total circumference 11". (using the Brother KX390 Convertible Knitting Machine). Keep practicing and keep hopeful in your machine knitting endeavors; for it will get better and easier.

@@HJKelley47 A lot of people feel like you're "cheating". I blame it on people not really knowing what you mean when you say you machine knit, because everyone is thinking it's an industrial knitting machine. It's like with sewing machines. Nobody thinks using a sewing machine is cheating because most people are familiar with the capabilities of the average machine.

Thank you, I am interested in seeing how these machines work. It is a sturdy beautiful machine and very vintage looking. Are they just for fingering weight yarn? I would get one but I like heel flap gusset and I think the machine does German short row heels or you can do after thought heels. I think the machines are great and I love seeing the pile of socks that hoarder always has.
@CraftsfromtheThirdFloor7 жыл бұрын
JoJo Rey you can do short row heels and toes easily on the machine, or afterthought if you prefer! I find the heel on the machine fits really well and looks nice too. I have used a sport weight on the machine but that’s the heaviest yarn that I would use personally!

Hi, I want to order one but worried how much extra charges will be. Can you share how much the charges were please
@4Luwana7 жыл бұрын
Hi again, Thank you for showing us how you and Gerti work together. I did want to ask a question about the toes though. I think you said that you make two rows after you are done with the toe. My question is do you pull those out in order to get good stitches to Kitchener with, or do you just Kitchener the two extra rows together?. In most of the tutorials I've seen, after they complete a toe they just cut off the working yarn, put on the waste yarn and go for it. I would much rather be able to pull out two rows and get a really good stitch that I can easily pick up. Thank you, Luwana on Ravelry
@CraftsfromtheThirdFloor7 жыл бұрын
L Sykes I pick up the last row of stitches before those extra two rows. Then unravel them and use the tail to Kitchener together. It makes it a lot neater I think!

Thank you so much for this. I am seriously considering purchasing a CSM but don't know too much about them so I look forward to your future podcasts. Also, how good are the instructions for assembly and use? Is there a proper video on how to knit on the machine?
@CraftsfromtheThirdFloor7 жыл бұрын
flourchylde there’s not a whole lot of resources out there, but there are a few videos by Erlbacher Gearhart on KZbin that are really helpful! I’m planning on a whole series of how to use them as I learn it all myself
