How very interesting, thank you Gertie. I could watch an episode like this every day, as the beauty and workmanship of vintage garments is a great source of interest.🇦🇺

This was wonderful, thank you. My mother was an amazing sewist and everything about this dress is something she would have sewed into one of her own dress creations. She loved hand work, reviewing that with you in this video brought back so many memories. Great video.

Wow that was incredible! I worked horsehair braid on the bottom skirt hem of one of your patterns and I absolutely loved the effect. It was so much work, I can't imagine buying that in a department store now!

Your show is so cool. I found this episode super interesting & I wish it had gone on longer! In future episodes, please zoom in more on each detail and give more time talking about each feature so we can really observe & absorb. I'm watching on a huge tv & had trouble seeing most of the detailing that you mention in the beginning because you didn't zoom in. Thanks so much for the show!

Very cool video...thank you. I'm in the midst of installing a waist stay on a prom dress for my daughter so stumbled across this. Nice to see the horse hair braid, hand stitches, internal corsellette...all well engineered and made! Thanks again.

I'm not sure how I missed this - probably by being busy when it came out and KZbin not bothering to remind me... It's awesome to see how it goes together when you don't have a chance to get your hands on such a dress yourself! Thank you!

Loved the dress. What a beautiful colour, and the details that went into making it, amazing, particularly when compared to today's construction. As usual, loved your video, but I do have one thing to ask, can you please post the sleeve details on your blog? I just couldn't see them in the video. Thanks, and happy sewing!

LOVE this red dress you showed us. Ladies where a lot smaller back then. My daughter is a size 6 - 8 But my mothers wedding dress was a waist size of 23"so my very slim daughter cant fit the wedding dress. We have to get it altered to fit her. This red dress is stunning

Hey there Gertie! Thank you SO much for sharing all of your information! I have always loved retro styles and wanted to make my own dresses. I gave up for a long time, but now that I am researching again and finding your content, it is giving me the confidence that I need to get started again.

Thanks for sharing and it was cool to disect the construction. Only thing that got me was tne urge to fisinish the seam between the bodice, corselette and skirt. I'm well known for being borderline OCD with seam finishes. One can find hand work in a off the rack garment but it will cost and is a rarity.

I think the petticoat is made from a lightweight buckram. From what you describe and what I could see that would be the most likely fabric.

I bought a skirt at J. Crew Factory (!) once that had some hand stitches in the inside grosgrain/waste-band area. I don’t remember the purpose of the stitching but it was definitely for construction/structural purposes & not decorative. I was very surprised and impressed! But I heard they are taking steps to increase the amount of releases of new designs so they can better compete with their Fast-Fashion competitors ☹️

Love the dress! There's a retro style that's showing up a lot now that I love-it's the wiggle dress with the crop top or "over blouse" (please look up Advance 9330 pattern-out of stock). I would love to make it, but can't find a pattern. would you consider a diy video? Thanks!
Upsest with your videos! Thank you! Would be great to do a tutrorial on with the horsehair braid!

thanks Gertie, Bonwit Teller continued on into the 1990s. Even in the 80s you could get better quality clothes. But in the 1950s they were very high end. I have noticed that my 1950s clothes have a lot of hand stitching even when they were union made.

may I enquire as to what Etsy store you purchased this from? I have a 22in waist and I can't find any vintage replica stores that sell things in my size. this looks as if it would genuinely fit me. I am not skilled enough to sew my own clothes at this time so I would love to buy some still wearable pieces.

This was the first episode I watched all the way through! Would've loved to have seen the dress either on you or your dressform. Maybe you can put some pics on your blog of it being modeled.

Late reply, but... she does mention at the beginning that it's too small for anyone she knows or any dressform she has available. Trying to put it on someone/something bigger would only damage it!
