Great video. I climbed this at 68 and we were back at the car by lunchtime. At 17 years I first climbed it and there were no ropes or track markers at all. I explored the Darrens quite a bit as a student and this was one of the highlights. We were careful on both trips to select a fine weather forecast- most necessary. NZMSC, you are wise to highlight the precautions you give.

Then why, when given your video's constant safety warnings, was this a DOC promoted high use track by inexperienced and unprepared tourists pre covid? Last trip I was disgusted by the shear numbers snaking up the valley and crowding the saddle, including an Israeli couple in their seventies who became disoriented and needed help. They had no idea what they were in for and no real experience. DOC Te Anau had encouraged them to do the walk while in the valley they said. Maybe DOC staff need to watch this video?
