The idea of passive gerunds and past gerunds is new to me even though many times I see it but I didn't think about its difference in meaning. Now you can see why I love you❤❤ Many kind regards from me.

Thank you for this advanced grammar lesson teacher. I'd like to ask few questions. 1. Is there a difference between "past gerund" and "perfect gerund"? Both have the same formation. (having+v3). 2.The (verb+ing) that comes after a sense verb or verbs of perception to show continuous/ unfinished action. Is it a gerund or participle? For an example, I see him running on the street. Is the verb 'running' gerund or participle? Thank you.

Good questions. 1. A "perfect gerund" and a "past gerund" are indeed the same thing. 2. The form after a verb of sense or perception is a present participle. A gerund is also a present participle, but the form in this case is not a gerund. One way to check if a form is a gerund is to see whether it fills a noun position in the sentence structure. It is not possible to follow "I see him" with a noun, so that is why I conclude it is not a gerund.
