This was so very excellent. Thanks for sharing! I’m going to meditate on those two Greek words ‘katakrima & krima.’ Thank you for pointing out the differences between these two Greek words. I’m going to listen again until this gets down in my spirit so that when I read the scriptures I will understand exactly what God is saying I must focus in on in order to live a victorious Christian life. I’m sure it won’t be focusing in on fulfilling the Law but it will be focusing in on what Jesus has done for me and asking the Spirit of God to help me walk as He walked which He has deposited inside of me the day I was born again 47 years ago now. It is true that ‘the Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus has set me free from the Law of sin & death’ (Rom 8:2)…. and ‘the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life & peace.’ (Rom 8:6) 👏👏👏👏🙌🙌🙌

Thank you. I've been wrestling with this verse this week. It makes me squirm when I see the qualifying description of those who have no condemnation as "who walk not after the flesh but after the spirit" ..i over think on that "so if I'm not walking after the spirit I'm still under condemnation?" But also, walking after the spirit doesn't necessarily mean following the law or being obedient. It could mean abiding in the faith of the gospel. Galatians makes a distinction between the religious flesh and boasting in the perfecting of the flesh as opposed to walking after the spirit in faith working in love.. which ill also over think about.
@bugsocsollie16943 күн бұрын
I think it's referring self condemnation. If our focus is mainly on the flesh (carnally minded) what the flesh is doing or not doing right, then we condemn ourselves. But if we walk in the Spirit, knowing who we are in Christ (perfectly clean) there is no condemnation. Jesus doesn't condemn any of us who are in Him. He didn't even condemn the woman caught in the act, and she didn't even repent or anything, before He told her "neither do I condemn you."
@steveburgoon36743 күн бұрын
It's very simple. The eternal security of our soul was already dealt with in earlier chapters. Verse, one of chapter eight, is a conclusion of chapter seven. If you walk in the flesh by putting yourself back under the law, you're going to fail, and you're gonna condemn yourself by the actions of keeping yourself under a law system. We are a spiritual creation. Now we're supposed to be walking in the spirit.

Thank you for this correct meaning. The context reveals the use of "condemnation" when seen in light of its connection to Rom. 7, not as many say it would mean losing your salvation, therefore they dismiss the "who do not walk according to the flesh" part. I agree, I don't know Greek but shouldn't have to. In my mention online to a critical text scholar about something, he concluded I was "one of those 1611 guys [and needed] to learn Hebrew and Greek, and to see how ridiculous [my] ideas were." Also, I "was in a cult...." Maybe I'm just one of those "Tyndale plowboys" reading the scriptures in my own language.

Grace Evangelical society "Condemnation" in Rom 8: 1. Does mean Condemnation, judgment against. It means NO Condemnation, No judgment against born again Christians who walk after the Spirit and not after the flesh. It's the only time the Greek word adds separation from God or His blessings. Whereas the same Greek word is in Rom 5: 16 & v 18, where people are condemned. False grace teacher use the erroneous modern translations of the Bible, because they leave "Who walk not after the Spirit, but walk after a flesh" of Rom 8: 1.

Romans 7:13-25 states that those who try to keep the law on their own are under the law of sin and death. We cannot overcome in our own strength. It is the same law in Romans eight which is the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus. Having their disposition changed they now overcome by walking in the spirit and overcoming the deeds of the body.

He tells us in Gal 5:16 that we shouldn't be walking in the flesh. We are a new creation and should be walking according to the Spirit. So this is really irrelevant. As Jesus says, if you love me you will keep my commandments. And He gave us two. If we walk according to these two commandments then we will walk in the spirit and not bow down to the desires of the flesh.

@timgrady46304 күн бұрын
@danielbelteshazzar-mg7rb (Dr. John Niemela on Ephesians 2:8-9) VIEW 1: TOUTO (“THIS”) REFERS TO FAITH AS GOD’S GIFT Despite being popular among Calvinists, this view faces huge hurdles. First, it disrupts the passage’s flow with a parenthesis. Second, it abandons Paul’s normal usage of neuter singular forms of the demonstrative pronoun houtos (“this”). A. Distortion #1: Being Made Alive Precedes Faith Few realize that treating faith as God’s gift makes part of Eph 2:8 parenthetic. James Candlish admitted this in 1895: …the majority of modern interpreters, including Calvin,2 refer it [“this is not of yourselves”] to salvation. The chief reason for this latter opinion is that the following clause (ver. 9), “not of works,” can hardly be connected with faith, but must refer to salvation. But it is quite in Paul’s style to interrupt the direct connection of his thoughts by a parenthetic clause such as this, so that the construction would be: “by grace ye have been saved through faith… not of works”; while the words, “and that not of yourselves, God’s is the gift,” come in as a parenthesis [explaining the source of faith].3 Treating faith as God’s gift requires a parenthetic interruption.4 Abraham Kuyper embraced this idea. He explicitly inserts parentheses: For then it reads: “You are saved by mere grace, by means of faith. (Not as tho[ugh] by this means of faith the grace of your salvation would be partly not of grace: no indeed not, for even that faith is not of yourselves, it is the gift of God.) And, therefore, saved through faith, not of works, lest any man should boast, for we are His workmanship.” But then this creates a parenthesis, which is perfectly true; but even this is truly Pauline (emphasis in original).5Like Kuyper, Candlish claimed to expect a parenthesis here: “…it is quite in Paul’s style to interrupt the direct connection of his thoughts by a parenthetic clause such as this.” Though Paul is not averse to inserting parentheses, Candlish did not know that the hallmark of parentheses is that they lack “proper syntactical connection,” as A. T. Robertson’s introduction to that topic contends: “Such a clause, inserted in the midst of the sentence without proper syntactical connection, is quite common in the N. T.”6 Ephesians 2:5f illustrates Robertson’s point that parenthetic portions are “without proper syntactical connection.” Specifically, …He [God] made alive together with Christ [third person main verb] (by grace you have been saved)7 [parenthetic second person verb] and He raised together and seated together… [third person main verbs] The phrase “By grace you have been saved” in 2:5 is parenthetic because the second person verb is “without proper syntactical connection.” Parentheses belong in 2:5f because part of the sentence lacks proper syntactical connection. However, that does not apply in 2:8. Even Candlish admits that the phrase “and that not of yourselves” has a proper syntactical connection: “Whether the following clause, ‘and that not of yourselves,’ refers to faith, or to ‘ye have been saved,’ is a doubtful question; for both interpretations are grammatically possible…” [emphasis added].8 Candlish fractures Paul’s thought here with a theologically motivated parenthesis. Apparently, he embraced the Calvinistic supposition that “dead” (Eph 2:1 5) denotes inability. However, Paul’s grammar precludes such a definition for dead: People are saved (made alive) through faith. Timothy Nichols argues persuasively in that: In their own chosen terminology, what each commentator [Lincoln, Wood, Alford, Lenski, Eadie, Anders, Bruce, Martin, Hoehner, Beare and Wedel, Simpson, Abbott, Hodge, and Robertson] affirms is this: faith is the instrumental cause of salvation, but grace is the principle cause [emphasis in original].9
@timgrady46304 күн бұрын
@danielbelteshazzar-mg7rb (Niemela continuing) "Instrumental cause must precede (by at least a split second) the action that is effected. A simple, but profound implication is that instrumental means must precede (even by a millisecond) the action for which it is a means. An illustration may help: The car started through Mr. Smith’s turning the key. (Key turns, then car starts.) Ephesians were made alive (saved) through faith. (Faith first, then one is made alive.) Both underlined phrases preceded the italicized ones.10 The Calvinist model is akin to the car starting before one turns the key. It reverses the sequence which Paul’s grammar requires. That is not this view’s only distortion. B. Distortion #2: Touto (This) Refers to Pistis (Faith) New Testament statistics strongly deny that touto refers to faith. Viewing faith as God’s gift here also runs afoul of Paul’s usage of neuter singular forms of the demonstrative houtos. Paul simply does not use neuter forms of houtos to refer to feminine nouns, such as pistis (faith).11 In the Majority Text, Paul uses 139 neuter singulars of the word houtos, usually translated as this. One hundred of those refer to multiple-word conceptual units: 13 uses referring to a paragraph (a neuter referent) 20 to a sentence (a neuter referent) 66 to a clause (a neuter referent) + 1 to a phrase (a neuter referent) 100 uses referring to multiple-word conceptual units He uses neuter singulars thirty-nine (39) times to refer to or modify neuter words. 9 uses referring to a neuter relative pronoun 5 uses referring to another neuter word + 25 uses as an attributive adjective modifying a neuter word 39 uses referring to or modifying a neuter wordThe main take-away is that Paul simply does not refer to masculine or feminine nouns via neuter forms of houtos. Some may find comparing the nominative singular forms of houtos with a masculine, a feminine, and a neuter noun helpful: Masculine: houtos: houtos ho anthrōpos = this man (anthrōpos is masculine) Feminine: hautē: hautē hē pistis = this faith (pistis is feminine) Neuter: touto: touto to arnion = this lamb (arnion is neuter) These forms are quite distinct. Only hautē would point to a feminine antecedent. In Eph 2:8, Paul uses touto. The standard Calvinist approach has an insurmountable hurdle."

@@GS-mh6ub It depends by what you mean by the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The simple Gospel is the promise of Jesus of the gift of eternal life taken freely. That is what Paul is talking about in 1 Timothy 1:15-16 which is to be the pattern for those who are going to believe in Jesus FOR eternal life. That is the bulls-eye of Paul’s Gospel. You’re not born again by Jesus death, burial, and resurrection. The life is in Jesus name, not in His work. Jesus death took care of the sin issue, so God can give sinners the gift of eternal life freely (John 20:31; 1:12-13; 3:16-18,36; 4:10,13-14,25-26; 5:24-25; 6:44-45; 10:28-29;11:25-27; 12:47-50). @@GS-mh6ub The believer is expected to believe in Jesus death, burial, and resurrection, but is not a requirement to be born again. These verses will prove this. The death, and resurrection is the 8th sign in the Gospel of John, and the purpose of the signs is that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have LIFE IN HIS NAME. (John 1:12-13) The Gospel of John is the only book that is evangelistic (John 20:30-31 and was written during the Church Age. All eleven of Jesus disciples did not believe that Jesus would die, and be resurrected. No one did in John’s Gospel, as John 3:32-33 makes clear, but yet they were born again as Matt 16:15-23 makes clear. It wasn’t until after Jesus resurrection the last one of the eleven to certify God as true was Thomas John 20:29. One is born again when they hear the voice of the Son of God in the Scriptures, and at that moment they pass out of death and into life (John 5:24- 25; 10:16; 12:47-50). The command the Father gave the Son to speak is the command of everlasting life, if not believed will come back on the last day and judge you (Rev 20:15; John 12:47-50).
