Great attachments! We have added a spear to the 3 point on the rear of the tractor. 2 bales at a time= fewer trips and it balances out the weight. Haying season is upon us too! Congrats on your yield!

I use a round bale squeeze for plastic wrapped marshmallow bales. I also use the 4 spear attachment to pick up dry rounds from the field but my round baler has the option to drop bales in pairs which is handy and fast.

First off, Thanks to Hustler Equipment for giving you an opportunity to test some new equipment and being able to provide some feed back to them. Very happy to see the rain/snow you received this past winter has produced some great hay this year. If you continue to get some great numbers in the other fields, you may have enough to sell to some of the other farmers who weren't so lucky with their crops this year. Another way to possibly make money for the ranch. Thanks to Jeff for being there another year giving his precious time to help out on the ranch. God Bless you all and continue to be safe.

I think the soft hands with a not spear, but weld on some hill looking metal pattern on both sides of the squeeze arms would help it from the bale wanting to fall off

Hi Mike, first time commenting. As a farm kid myself 40 years ago, we did square's and filled the hay mound by hand. Now , round bales are the ticket. We use the 3 tine speer ourselves, but like the Hustler soft hands type. Good choice without poking the bale, especially if its plastic wrapped. Although, if Hustler could adapt a bolt on alligator type rail with 2" teeth in several spots on the clamp arms, that would prevent rolling out as such as going downhill like Jeff commented on. It would hurt the bale, but stablize it in the clamp. Any plastic wrapped bale obviously wouldn't use them. I love innovation and mechanics as im a mechanic myself in industry. Good choice and good luck. Always watching.

Great comparison, I like it. I use a two fork on a 94 hp tractor and I like how that one works. We use a three fork on our small JD tractor and that one works good to. We do 4x5 rounds and that does make a difference. I have seen the soft hands used before and while I think they work great for silage hay, for net wrap and plastic twine wrap, I still prefer the forks first, easy to pick and to unload for my situation. Enjoyed watching, as always. I hope you all have a great evening!

My dad had a homemade bale squeeze when i was a kid in the 60s,we used to put up about 75 lb. Small square bales so we dragged a skid behind the bailer we stacked cris cross 12 bales on a skid pile and the squeeze would pick up and stack the skid piles into a huge square stack as high as the tractor loader arms could reach the bale squeeze attached where the loader bucket did

The smoke is quite heavy today & the cool weather has been really nice for haying! As a child I drove the tactor for the bucking of hay then 'drove' the derrick back & forth with my father who used "rigging signals" to direct me. I loved it but had to stand up to drive as I was short for a 5 year old & up as I grew. Used a John Deere 70 back then.

Glad you are out of the drought this year and that you have a good hay yield! In my opinion the most efficient piece of equipment for picking up round bales is made by Morris. They make a 8 bale and a 14 bale hayhiker wagon that you pull with a tractor and self loads. You only need one tractor and you only handle the bales once. When you push the bales off they are left in 2 rows that are tight end to end to keep rain / snow out. You should never stack round bales when storing them outside, they get water between them and.your spoilage goes way up, plus they freeze together and you rip all the twine off when you have to rip them out of the stack.
@evansfarms7961 Жыл бұрын
Why would you not put a back stabber on the tractor? That’s a lot of extra trips and fuel for just one bale on the front.. Or have a gooseneck hay trailer that you pull behind the tractor and haul about 10 or 11 bales on

Need that attachment for bailer where after you make a bail. That the bailer will kick it out and move it to the side while making another bail. You can then drop all your nails in a close area. Sonne Farms use one, it helps especially with a hay crop like yours. Gonna be a great year for hay. Probably could sell some of you guys decided too

The soft grabber would be great for stacking bales especially if space was an issue but only able to handle 1 bale at a time
@roberto.peterson9917 Жыл бұрын
What is needed is the pick up and hauler seen one that actually function like an orchard bin pick up and drop off hauling 15 ? bales and side dump all at the same time the trailer bed tilts to unload but you most likely need to actually be in the haying business commercially for it to pay for its self
@lukepullen5467 Жыл бұрын
We stack end on end like a two coke cans stacked on top of eack other and lift them with a clamp grab. One tractor in the paddock making a stacks to suit the truck and dog and one tractor at the shed unloading and stacking the shed. 1250 bales in 2 days is a good run. 🇦🇺🇦🇺 not bad for 3 people

"Soft hands", give your bales a gentle hug. Lol kind of like a straight jacket to humans. Give yourself a hug 24/7. I do like the soft hands better. I've never seen the marshmallow bales. My grandparents (both sets) used to live in Indiana. Used too as I'm 48yrs old now. Round bales are common in Indiana. I watch Sandi Brock who lives in Canada. She's a sheep farmer. She uses square bales and silage for her sheep. But she puts her silage in a long tube of plastic. So marshmallow bale's is a new one for me.

Good stuff! I wasn't impressed with those other two either - the single spear is what I am used to so maybe biased. The four tine may work for hauling small squares or large squares though. Clover does make a difference and the funny part is that next year it may not be there.

Mike, I'm wondering if you have your baler set too loose. Our bales are packed tight and when you stab them there's no slop between the spike and bale. The squeeze might allow you to grow your operation to include wrapping haylage bales. John Deere balers, at least built in this century are capable of making really tight bales that weigh out 1,600lb-2,000lb. Heavier bales are the best bales.
